Re: World Selection Made Easier! (03/02/2007)
The damage would already done to Asura (for example) in the form of hyperinflation. (Lest you feel sorry for poor RMT's, let me point out that demands for Gils will also increase in an inflationary economy--selling gils creates additional demand for buying Gils, in the long term.)
And, when the price for Gils goes down, they'll send the gils from Asura right back to other which ever server with the highest $/gil ratio, and do it again.
That would be good if S-E watches that. Then again, how many years did it pass before S-E implemented speed hack monitoring at popular NM/HNM camps? That seemed very sensible, too.
I don't think we're ready for the digital graves, yet. ^_^; FFXI has survived WoW (and Guild Wars (sp?) with its no-subscription model, to a lesser extend) better than EQ. This game should be around for quite a while longer.

I don't think players should get to pick which server merges with which. Hopefully, S-E would just merge servers in such a way so which world has roughly the same number of players. It'll be some time, yet, before we need that--hopefully.
In any case, S-E can implement measures to mitigate possible damages. However, I wish they would just stop at picking world during character creation, instead of allowing on-demand migration of any sort. It's simpler not to implement a flawed idea instead of patching it to be less broken.
