    Re: Doll festival

Heh, I didn't see that But today was Quistis's day to be on the front page!

Just imagine going down there middle of Summer and finding a bunch of little Mithran girls running around playing tag. >_>; It was hilarious.
After that one event with the costume belts we had like 80+ mandragora invading Kazham, it was funny

Err, I wasn't really referring to Moogle reasoning. I guess I'd have to be of the cultures that observe this to appreciate what this event was based on. I guess I just feel the way this is handled give people a backdoor to mock what may be a special time for someone else.

Seriously though, there's so much RPG lore derived from so many different cultures, kinda wish SE would take the time to acknowledge that through events. The Summons, Odin, Cait Sith, Ceberus - all of it has a basis and would be interesting to have events based on the cultures these FF standbys originate from.

Did you know the mythological version of Bahamut is really a giant fish or whale? Guess that kinda explains why he pops out of the ocean at the start of CoP. The zone he was originally intended to be confronted in was actually Al'Taieu, which we all know as "Sea."

      Makes sense.

SE isn't going to limit the festival to one gender of characters. That's completely ridiculous. It's just a damn art contest for crying out loud. What does that have to do with Sea, or Bahamut, or anything?

          Re: Doll festival

It was being use as a comparative example since the Doll Feastible was a girls only holiday in japan if i recall correctly also known as Girl's Day unless i gotten something mixed up in my pre sleeping state writing this . So, Omgbbq was using Bahamut to string how SE doesn't normally as quoted

Just an example was all it was. Like SE doesn't do what the FFXI wikipedia did by going into historical/cultural/mythological background of certian things when they base their events off reality.

I can't remember everything my japanese TA said about this, since I did ask her when the first doll festival rolled around, so taken from Wiki:

This traditional Girls' Festival is not a national holiday. Another name for it is Momo no sekku (the Peach Festival). Girls display a set of dolls dressed in costumes of courtiers of the Heian period. Many families pass these dolls from generation to generation. Other customs include displaying peach blossoms; eating red, white and green diamond-shaped mochi; and drinking shirozake, a white beverage. According to an old wives' tale, a girl who leaves her dolls on display after this holiday will be late to marry.

You'll have to forgive Murphie, he has no ability to link two ideas by context.

The cultural exchange that takes place in an event like the Doll Festival is appreciated, but the game could use more holidays themed around other cultures, too. Almost very mythological character in this game has a cultural basis and we could use those to theme events around while keeping the theme based in the game because they're also Final Fantasy mainstays.

I like how the last Halloween event was tied the Great War, it was relevant to the overall story of the game instead of just being a recycled event like before. The Year of the Dog was tied in with Fenrir and you had Taru mages chasing him around, another tie-in made relevant to the in-game world.

I just like the stuff that feels a bit less tacked-on. I guess the difference in Doll Festival this year is the art contest itself, its a subtle way of celebrating women, even if its just the female characters in the game. I suppose that in and of itself is thoughtful enough. Its something we could stand to see more of.

I just don't want those insipid Alphabetical Eggs again this year. Something different, anything. Chocolate Rarhabs would even be enough.

                Rarabs.

And there will be a "boys" festival later where us ladies can complain about being sent male cakes.

Agreed, the Trent Christmas event was fun, but the ones after that, while interesting at first, just doesn't feel the same, ya know?

I don't get why people are getting so offended, I enjoy these events and I somewhat know of Japanese culture so I know there's a festival for boys as well (I think someone mentioned it).

Because no matter what SE does, everyone has to complain about it.

                        Is the correct answer!

No matter what you think, running in Dyna-Xarca as little girls is amusing...

That's actually very true.. I do always see people complaining about something <_< Sometimes they update slower, which obviously means it's the end of they world D:

Hahaha, I'm joking. Hopefully no one takes me seriously

Not quite, this is an online game, I expect things to be added and for things to get interesting. To get a christmas event so many times in a row where it's just trade presents to kiddies, it's not bad but what about a little variation?

Or like the sleeping chocobo thing, I am very much of the opinion that if it was a bug, it should have been found with very little testing, and if it wasn't a bug, at least give us an option to wake up the baby chocobo to feed it, or make it so that the basic care plan feeds your chocobo for you. The way it was setup seemed to me, that SE just tossed it together without too much thought, that's what I am complaining about.

Last year the feast of swords event followed the doll festival. I had just started around this time last year, so I wasn't big into the whole events thing. All I know if I got a wooden Katana to smack some possessed armor with and it kept PWNing me, LOL.

I believe the Feast of Swords event is the boy's event.

No, he has no interest in figuring out the way your mind tries to link two disparate concepts, so he often finds himself befuddled by your random posts.

Also, as Kirsteena said (and I said a couple of days ago). Rarab.
