Blizzard can and will ban you for changing the environment and even using 'approved' hardware.

Well, to clarify, third party software that can control your character (botting) is typically bannable in any game. Yes, I also understand that this is the stance SE/POL took here.

I'm not advocating botting.

Blizzard allows a gray area, however. You can use their toolkit to build UI additions to simplify menial tasks. You don't need third party software. And since it's their toolkit, it typically doesn't break anything.

An example would be refresh/recharge timers. Blizzard has no problem with these being built in game and used. In FFXI, I need to build an terribly limited echo macro, count in my head, or use a third party tool like FFXIAssist for this.

From the tone here, I'd say that use Assist of is likely a bannable offense. If it was written with hooks into the game and they detected it, I bet it would be.

Either way, does this WoW make it a better game? No...

But I think it illustrates a business philosophy that affords the customer a bit more flexibility, rather than threatening them like children.

Windower *is* a hack, it is against ToS, I wish they would start cracking down on it more. It provides several unfair advantages over people on other systems and over people who abide by the rules and refuse to use it (seeing TP, exact HP percentages, exact distances, etc.)

That, of course, is why some people are advocating an official windowed mode that *wouldn't* have built in cheats, but a windower *with* cheats is, well, cheating. And since one of the main purposes of the existing windower is to facilitate cheating, I think SE should get a lot more serious about it.

The other systems is a moot point, PS2 and 360 don't have a desktop and their MAIN function is gaming. PC has multiple functions, 1 being gaming. And frankly, although Windower IS the source for may hacks in the game, as we've seen with this recent banning they get dealt with.

Despite that, many people use windower just because the game crashing that comes from alt tabbing is annoying. It'd be more beneficial for my party for me to not DC cause of an AIM message or my virus scanner popup asking me to upgrade to the 'SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME DELUXE PACKAGE'. It may be illegal and a basis on banning, but the base function of 'Windower'(note its called Windower, not "FFXI Hack-o-matic" can be argued to be morally correct, even though morals have little to no basis on the decision of bannings in reality.

Last night while doing a NPC lvl cap quest I saw about 8 lvl 1 Tarus all in starter gear running down the stairs heading towards Qufim.

All were /anon. I wonder if those are the new fishing botts in training.

Cost wise its better for SE to let them buy the disks and 'maybe' pay a monthly fee or two before banning them then just doing it outright like that.

seeing someone's tp, exact hp percentages, exact distances, are PLUGINS. They are seperate programs that run *in* the windower. However the windower can run fine without the use of such plugins. The windower does exactly like it does, just allows you to alt-tab to another program. Using the windower does not necessarily mean they are using the plug-ins provided.

Just because I have a car doesn't mean I'm going to add a big muffler, a cold air intake and mod the cpu engine chip.

It also doesn't mean I'm going to run someone over with it either, but I could.

This is all facinating.

Windower is still a hack.

But seriously. The game IS swarming with gilsellers. They are everywhere. And S-E still has such a high heads that when we report them, they want us to explain the reason we think they are gilsellers? And want us to tell them all the names when they can simply come look by themselves?

And at EVERY NM camp, there are always people that claims 90% of the pop. Some even got witness when they "warp" claim mobs. Yet, those people all remain ingame after all these years.

OK with all those above, they chose to ban me.

Whatever.

I can list things I used.
- windower
- IME plugin
- logmon
- recast timer
Again, not gonna complain for my ban. If they banned me for anything above, then so be it. I'll leave it as it is.

And surprised? When I was about to quit, 90% of the people I knew both RL and from ingame all suggested I sell my account. -_-;Just shows how much people in game truely care about RMT.

Even if my account didn't get banned, I will never ever sell my account.

I agree that FFXI has a problem with RMT, but so does just about every MMO out there... Vanguard will be there soon.

Edit: Ok I just looked at the IGE site out of curiousity and they are already selling money for Vangaurd >.<;
