Starting in March: FINAL FANTASY XI in French and German! (01/23/2007)
Since the beginning of service, FINAL FANTASY XI has only been available in English or Japanese. However, starting in March, we will be offering a language conversion download that will make it possible to play FINAL FANTASY XI in French or German!

Towards the end of March, we also plan to release language-specific FINAL FANTASY XI packages for new French and German players. We look forward to welcoming you to the ever-changing world of Vana'diel!

I guess this means all of us will have an update to include extra files in the autotranslate function.

Handy for the EU folks, I suppose. But they seem to do ok already.

I doubt it's expected to get too many new players, rather make the experience of existing players a little more enjoyable.

That's what I meant. The ones that are already playing seem to have acclimated pretty well. Still, it'll be nice for them.

Why didn't SE do this a long time ago. Why now? :S. Especially with the rumor of a sequal to FFXI MMORPG game. I think its a sequal to FFXI or just a totally different one.

Haven't we been over this before? Didn't that "FFXI sequal" turn out to be a Mana online or something?

Don't count out the idea of it pulling in more so quickly though. Pretty amazing how well prejudice still thrives in our world, also not to mention that if those area's haven't been advertised to then it's possible a good amount of them may still not know about the game.

Will people really join this late? With WoW expansion and vanguard coming out?

It's not really that late, though. People still join older games than this. In large numbers? Probably not. But it does happen.

Re: French and German versions of FFXI

Pretty much all the gamers I know from Europe speak fluent English anyway. The only real benefit of offering a language variant is if you have localised servers with a concentration of German and French players so they can converse easily in their mother tongue and be around large enough numbers of their fellow countrymen to do so. Welcome to FFXI with its, "Fall where you may" approach to server load and nationality spread and you'll probably find a maximum of 10-20 French or German players on any particular server. As to this enticing many players I really don't see it happening but miracles can happen. Let alone the huge upsurge of happiness these new players will feel when they realise they're the lucky recipients of every single update bang in the middle of their prime time.

WoW had already accomodated EU/asian players with full language support. So it's not like that will prevent new players to FFXI (Although the expansion probably have already drawn enough as it is, seeing how my server is nearly facing a split)
