I sympathize, but you have to see it from their point of view. They're aiming to piss off as few people as possible.

Can't do Japan or US prime, they are the majority. So who is the smallest minority? Australia. Can't do it during their prime time, because that cuts into Japan's prime. Who is the next smallest minority? Europeans.

Granted, they could learn to stagger it a bit.

just do what I do, since they always announce (on the US site) in PST, just remember the conversion to your local time zone.

I'm amazed Euros still play this game with the disgusting second rate treatment they receive from S-E.

        No Fan-Faires.
        No Vana'diel 2007 Collection.
        No Cross-server PvP events.

Although they compensate by hitting us with every single update unless something catastrophic happens and they have to patch in Japanese or US primetime... oh the horror!

Sounds like another "oh shi- we screwed up" update. It might be a good time to go outside and get some sun aggro, or something.

The maintenance doesn't often bother me in EST. The maintenance finishes @3pm for me, which, coincidentally, is the time I get home frome school. I'm usually only bothered by the all day long maintenance periods or the ones on weekends.

This is probably the post-festival update with possibly a couple of hidden changes to stuff you like:

WTF? Why can't I skill up Healing by casting on non-aggressive monsters?
WTF? Where'd my 4th Shadow go?
WTF? How come my pants don't fit any more?
                  etc.

They always do an update the day after the scheduled end of a festival. In this case New Years ended on the 15th.

They've put some maintenance on during the early morning (US Midnightish), but that sets all of the mob-timers to a time when nobody's on and gives gilsellers the advantage (These updates set the spawn times for mobs to be just as JP is at work, EU is getting off to work, and the US Players are (mostly) asleep -- Gilseller Prime time. Think of it this way, all of the mob spawn times are set near the very end of your prime, and before the start of JP Prime, so you get dibs if you stay up late. It should be a good thing for EU HNMLS.

If they did this early in someone's prime time, that region would have massive claims on ToD's for all of the HNMs, by setting it at the end of your time, that ensures that many of you will be in bed, few JPs will be up and the US gets screwed on ToDs.

Maintenance may just always be at the time it is due to the fact that SE/POL is based in California and 9am is typically the start of the US business day. I wouldn't expect them to call people in outside of the 9am - 5pm PST range unless there was some drastic emergency situation.

Re: All Worlds Maintenance (Jan. 16)

For me maintenance starts most often 2 hours after I get home from work and is finished 2 hours before my bed time, its just impossible to get a party or anything starten within 2 hours. (and i'm EU) and the largest maintenances () starts from when I get home, to when I go to bed. Booo! :/ Well its true, we are the smallest region, so they pick us, thats why I think they atleast should make the game slightly soloable, so you can do stuff localy when there is maintenance in a way that doesnt affect the game balance ofcourse.

Re: All Worlds Maintenance (Jan. 16)

The real gem of this is they're doing maintenance on the same day that WoW's expansion hits. That's a great way to hold on to fringe players.

'Our competitor is dropping a huge expansion today... we have to keep people motivated. Any ideas?'
                        'Ooooh, I know! I know!'
                        'Yes, Johnson?'
                        'Let's do Emergency Maintenance!'
'That's brilliant Johnson, get to it.'

i find it interesting that nobody yet has complained that this maintenance has been largely unannounced, unless i missed it from somebody's post. i have the idea that maintenance means improved server status and improved playing experience, so i don't mind having it at all. though, if i can expect it for at least a day, then i could have something planned to do while FFXI is down.

is there any speculations on why there is a maintenance period today? since the first announcement of his has only been posted a few hours prior, and relatively fast right after the scheduled maintenance, does that mean that this was some sort of emergency? if this is just some event update, then i'm particularly annoyed. it wouldn't be any less of a surprise, if i can expect the downtime period.

rumors are running around my ls that it's another RMT correction. I think they're going after the warp program that's been used to exploit all the warp, teleports and even the selbina clay quest.

haha, if that is indeed true, then i'd gladly wait twice as long for the maintenance period. those damn RMT companies represent all that's wrong with the MMO internal economy.
