Yes, but it will eat 3 days' worth of tags.

If you plan on doing Salvage twice a week, like Dynamis and Limbus, it will pretty much eat all the assault points you can earn in a week, if it's really 2k AP per person per run. (And that's assuming you never have any trouble finding a group for assault, and you never lose.) Of course you're also up to 8 nights of activities a week at that point - not counting ENMs, merit, HNMs popped or otherwise, etc.

If you plan on doing it more than twice a week - you'll run out of AP in a month or two, even if you are doing the max assaults possible.

I'll also point out that at the moment, if you have nothing better to do with your assault points, most non-ex assault items are going for about 50 gil per assault point. That means 2000 AP = 100k gil. That exchange rate will probably go *up* as people start saving their AP for Salvage (there were already quite a few people saving their AP for ex loot and buying all the non-ex stuff with gil, but now there will be even more). That makes it at least twice as expensive to enter as Limbus just in opportunity cost.

That doesn't mean I don't intend to try it, but being nowhere near finished collecting Assault loot yet, I probably won't go more than once a week, if that (assuming I can find a suitable group to go with).

It's an interesting choice to make Salvage both depend on and conflict with Assault this way. It may end up being completely overlooked if the loot isn't good enough - if you don't at least fairly often get something worth more than 2k AP/100k gil *per person*, who's going to keep going after the novelty wears off? Of course, if there's BLU/COR/PUP AF2 in there, or abjurations that can't be gotten in sky, some people are going to stay interested for a while.

Yeah, if you are working towards all the 20k items, I can see it being a problem. You just need to find people like me who aren't saving for any items. I have 5-13k on each of the areas. That is a lot of trips to Salvage
Some people are suggesting that you do higher rank assaults - that really only works once. Without the +50% bonus for first time completion they don't give noticeably more points than the lower ones. Some of them are more convenient, especially in hellholes like Lebros, but if it doesn't matter which staging point you spend points from, there's no reason to use Lebros points when you could use Leujaoam points instead. Massacring worms is easy for everyone.

The one point of unalloyed good news is that it will almost certainly make it easier to find groups for assault, especially higher ranks. More people who weren't bothering with assault or only doing a little will be likely to do more of it and work to raise their rank.

it's a Dynamis + Assault all in 1. However it doesn't seem like there will be hoards of enemies to fight, instead it's like one of those endless bcnm's. 1 Boss per floor, move to the next floor when you win, etc. There's only K.O. & 100 minutes to limit you from success.

Well this is anyone's guess, but that's just my take on it. From the screen shots, only 1 boss to fight. I don't think there's going to be Dynamis type mobs in it. Just the NM's.

And bonus is that you gotta fight h2h haha.

"Alright guys, everyone attack the enemy and use your fists!"
18 people hitting a frog with fists.

I wonder if you can keep your enhancements after entering i.e. use RR Hairpin before going in, etc.

If you haven't gotten the hint by now, SE just doesn't want people spamming BCNM, KSNM, ISNM, Assault, Dynamis or Limbus. The design is just clear on that every time.
I kinda had a feeling this wasn't going to be real endgame content and something more to the effect of pseudo-endgame content. Though I'm sure there will be some cool stuff to be had from this. No mission restrictions, just be 65+ and have ToA. It's just not an endgame zone like sky and sea are.
I do dig that this looks like an area in the vein of Tower of Babel in FFIV, full of robots and high-tech stuff. Makes me wonder if there is a CPU boss

hehe Soon as I saw the blue/purple mech thing I though Babel or Kefkas tower ^^

It looks like this is the placce we "may" get our Af2? I'm hoping so and to have it instanced is the best thing ever.

Hell, if I had all the gil from the past 6-8 weeks of Limbus I'd get a couple things I want.
I would suggest taking a balanced group (6 people) and going to NW Apollyon. A good party can get 7-8 coins each there with a good strategy. You don't have to have a blm to defeat the final boss either, just takes a bit longer.

Regarding Salvage, I suppose it we will have to wait and see how good the stuff you can get from it is to know if it is worth 2k AP. 2k AP/100k gil is a bargain if you can get endgame gear in my opinion.

Yes, but it will eat 3 days' worth of tags.
If you trio the right assaults, you can get 1300+ points in a single tag. In some cases, you can do that well regardless of what jobs you bring along. 3 tags will net you two permits if you cycle leader.

Re: New Multiplayer Battlefields: Salvage (12/15/2006)

errr I don't think the penalties will be so terrible. There are 16 equipment slots, I think 16 of the 20 different negative effects will be Encumberments. there are 4 others listed on the site, so 16 + 4 = 20. Not so bad if you usually don't get all 20. Which, I'm banking on 14ish. If that. There will probably always be a coffer near the entrance that someone can sneak to and open to get their first Imbued Items.

Also, if a Puppetmaster attacks a mob, does the Puppet automatically engage the same mob if not given a command? if so, that could be advantageous, as you could give them all sorts of attachments and none of the hindrances could um... hinder it. The same definately goes for DRG -- even if they're swinging half-skill punches from their warrior SJ, the wyvern can still beat the shit out of the mob. That's assuming you can call your wyvern before entering I guess...

Considering it's 65+, just like Dynamis, and considering it's very assault-esque... I think it's a very good guess that this is where the relic equipment for the new jobs will drop. Just like all the new jobs have their own take on cap quests (all involve a maat-esque battle for 70, no?), they'll have their own take on Dynamis. and the Aht Urgan style is the Assault style, so yeah. It just fits. Now i've talked myself up to the point where I don't wanna be wrong.

Anyone else notice there are 5 Runic Portals but only 4 Remnant zones to Salvage?

And please God, let them add Sanction into the Auto-translate function this update...

                --------

Dear God, I just realized how incredible it'll be when none of the healers can cast magic. Herro ninjars!

theres 20 possibly pathos you can have on at a time. so it may be oh i cant use my 1 earring slot. or its a chr-30 the PAIN. or its really unlucky and no weapons FOR YOU!! but also they say you can remove the pathos with a potion hingy obtained in there. which is also not an AOE potion meaning either you get lots of these potions easily or. the limitation per person is different in the zone so if u go in as 18 maybye some will havew pathos A while some have pathos B and they dont all have the same pathos on them. o.O

So, is FFXI ripping off FFXII, or the other way around? :D

FFXII Definitley took a ton from FFXI; but who came up with this idea first? XII obviously got it out first, but FFXI would also most likely need more fine tuning...

[If you haven't played FFXII, ignore this post, go buy it, and beat it. If you have, you should know what i'm talking about]

All ideas are the property of Square-Enix. Therefore, it's basically chicken/egg....

As for the Puppet auto-attacking, no... It doesn't auto attack like a summoned pet. It must be commanded to do so.

Re: New Multiplayer Battlefields: Salvage (12/15/2006)

Hmm, it looks to me like Encumberment is one effect. But I thought it meant the ALLIANCE would get about 20 effects, i.e., averaging 1-2 per person. Some of those will be almost negligible depending on who they land on (a blm that can't use JAs? How horrible! In fact, most of those effects are only a minor nuisance to a blm, I hope SE has taken that into account when designing the monsters so Salvage doesn't become manaburn city). Others will be crippling - DDs with no weapons, tanks who can't provoke, ninjas who can't cast Utsusemi, etc.

So the first few mobs might have to be fought by the people who just happen to get afflictions that don't cripple their jobs.

My first reaction to this is: bring extra tanks and healers. Tanks in particular may be shut down by *most* of the listed afflictions, and if you have all your WHMs get hit with "no magic", well, I hope you have some RDMs and some SMNs that didn't lose their subjobs. Depending on whether you can get some Pathos-removers without fighting for them, it may be a very good idea to bring a couple of WARs, who can tank some mobs without SJ or magic (although they still need their armor and probably JAs).

Along with the update notes is a slightly more detailed description of Salvage.

In particular, the imbued item listed states that it removes reduced dexterity. That implies that each stat down is a separate ailment that must be removed separately.

It also states that imbued items "can be found on monsters roaming throughout the remains", which would seem to squash the hope of getting some of them before you have to fight.
