  • New Multiplayer Battlefields: Salvage (12/15/2006)

    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics...47/detail.html

    Concept

The Aht Urhgan expansion pack has introduced a myriad of new battles--from the quick, SWAT-style Assault missions to the citywide skirmishes experienced in Besieged. Salvage continues in this tradition by offering several new exploratory missions designed for alliances. While similar to Limbus battles in that up to 18 adventurers can participate, Salvage battles are more than a relentless assault on a seemingly never-ending wave of enemies—they will require precise teamwork and impeccable strategy to complete.

    Objective

The main objective of Salvage missions is the exploration of the archaeological remains of four newly opened areas (Zhayolm Remnants, Arrapago Remnants, Bhaflau Remnants, Silver Sea Remnants) and the eradication the demonic beasts that rule their deepest depths. However, this will not be as easy as it sounds. A powerful force known only as the Pathos of Alzadaal limits the abilities of all who enter, making them easy prey for the hordes of fiends waiting in the shadows.
To complete these missions, alliances must work as one, or the treasure that slumbers in the remnants' bowels will remain lost for eternity.

    Participation

Adventurers must be level 65 or above, and be in a party/alliance of between 6 to 18 players. There are no mission rank or mercenary rank requirements.

    Remnants Permits

In addition to meeting the aforementioned criteria, adventurers also must possess a "remnants permit." This key item can be obtained in exchange for Assault points (2000) and will grant entry to any one of the four remnants. Please note that a permit can only be used once, and adventurers must wait until midnight (Earth time) before they will be allowed to purchase another.

    Area Reservation

Unlike Dynamis or Limbus, Salvage uses a battle system similar to Assault, meaning that area reservations are not required.
Also, Salvage mission time limits are all set at 100 minutes, and there are no items or monsters that can extend that limit.

    The Pathos of Alzadaal

When adventurers begin a Salvage mission, they may have as many as 20 different limits hampering their abilities, equipment, attributes, and more. The only way to reach the guardian of the area and retrieve its treasure is to remove these limits. However, removing these limits requires the defeat of the other monsters roaming the remnants.
The following is a list of the various types of Pathos:

    Imbued Items

    Imbued Items
The Pathos of Alzadaal can only be neutralized with special potions and medicines known as "imbued items." Most of these items are pathos-specific and will only cure one ailment. They can be found on monsters or within treasure coffers hidden throughout the remains.
One of the keys for success in the Salvage missions is determining in which order members of the alliance receive the imbued items.

*Players must dispose of any imbued items they bring back from the remains before they will be allowed to enter again.

This sounds fun to me. I am glad I didn't spend my assault points and sell items now. There really is only one thing I am wanting to buy with my assault points so I should be able to do a lot of these runs.

In my opinion 2000 Assault points is not hard to get really.

I'm working towards 3 pieces of Yigit atm, and a friend is trying to get full Paluwhan atm... 2k AS is a pain in the butt, especially when I have IS flowing all over the place...

2000 points can be easily done in a night. Even easier if you find one that you can trio with people. I trio the "Saving Private Ryaaf" one with a Drg and a Whm and we get no less than around 900 a time and it is sooooo easy. (Drg excells at this one and Shield bash helps also) So I feel I can get 2000 points in under an hour if I have 3 tags.

Yeah, if you are working towards all the 20k items, I can see it being a problem. You just need to find people like me who aren't saving for any items. I have 5-13k on each of the areas. That is a lot of trips to Salvage

IS is way too easy to get, though. Do a couple besiegeds and you have 2k IS usually. This may be instanced unlike Dynamis or Limbus, but it does seem to be using Assault as a bottleneck all the same. If you haven't gotten the hint by now, SE just doesn't want people spamming BCNM, KSNM, ISNM, Assault, Dynamis or Limbus. The design is just clear on that every time.

I kinda had a feeling this wasn't going to be real endgame content and something more to the effect of pseudo-endgame content. Though I'm sure there will be some cool stuff to be had from this. No mission restrictions, just be 65+ and have ToA. It's just not an endgame zone like sky and sea are.

I do dig that this looks like an area in the vein of Tower of Babel in FFIV, full of robots and high-tech stuff. Makes me wonder if there is a CPU boss

Well, look at it this way, it's instanced!!!!! No trigger camping against 4-5 Legit LSs and 2 RMT LSs.

I think perhaps some of that nifty looking gear they gave us a glimpse at may be some how related to this new Battlefield addition.

                          THANK GOD.

I always thought of some of the stuff in ToA as an alternative endgame for the people who don't have the time to blow on HNM camping, sky/sea farming, Limbus or Dynamis. In that sense I do respect the design of ToA, as it is accessable to those kinds of players. I just wish the rest of the expansion wasn't so screwy.

Re: New Multiplayer Battlefields: Salvage (12/15/2006)

It seems to be geared toward creating some exceedingly rare treasures which (hopefully) are not all Rare/Ex in nature. IS are very easy to get and I think that their use as an opener would make salvage too easy to get to. The use of assault points does two things:

                            (1) It pits Assault treasure against Salvage treasure increasing the rarity of both by consuming a almost a whole days (for most) worth of AP since a lot of players just take the lazier sure thing when they do assault--there are no greater rewards for doing harder missions (just slightly faster point accumulation). Now there will be more incentive to do higher-tier assaults since if all you ever do is Excavation Duty, well, you'll never get a nice AP item and a daily trip to Salvage.

                            (2) Provided the items found inside are at least on par with those found in Dynamis, this could end up as a "Poor Man's" Dynamis, helping to slow the gil hemmorhaging from all of those Dynamis Interlopers drooling over RA--even if such items are merely reagents in the creation of HQ Tier 0/1 gear or close enough that one would want the item as a swap/replacement for another piece of end-game gear.

OR Limbus, 50k x2 each week, Saving up coins for Brutal earring is tunring into the most expensive item I will own. Only getting 3-5 coins a run.

Hell, if I had all the gil from the past 6-8 weeks of Limbus I'd get a couple things I want.
