Seriously, what is the point of adding another monster that can't be defeated directly? Just to distract and kill more players so the Candescence will change hands more often?
Can't it just be for FUN? Really, the playerbase needs to remain challenged or this content just isn't worth it.

As it is, I'm already sick of people like you dictating what others should be fighting in Besieged as its is. The only way that serves me is to find yet another person who likes to shouts inane crap so I can add them to my blacklist.

And Medusa, Gulool Ja ja and Gurfurler have been defeated. Winning a battle goes two ways: (1) reduce the army and watch the leaders retreat or (2) kill the leader/key generals and watch the enemy fall into disarray and retreat. Separate the limbs from the body and the head is useless, remove the head and body and limbs are useless.

Also, we're probably looking at a level 7 Beseiged here. As long as the AC stays in Al'Zahbi the tensions between then Beastmen and Al'Zahbi are strong. When the AC is lost and retrived that tension resets and people can relax a bit until the tension builds again.

But if SE doesn't keep ramping these up in some way, long term interest will dwindle when the next expansion hits. Really, all Besieged is is a chaotic open-access Dynamis with EXP and IS as the prize rather than loot. Its meant to be accessable to most players, too. And you can get more free EXP out of this than the quested EXP scrolls or ENMs, usually.

I do like the addition of the HNMs for this reason: it kills the whole "My level 40 WHM is more helpful than your 75 melee" argument. Especially when Gates of Hades can one-shot the both of you. Makes me wonder how many mule will be replaced by real mains in hopes at a chance of cerby drops or w/e

I wasn't trying to prove that it was possible to kill her. I was merely noting that we had gotten her rather low, as someone upthread mentioned never seeing a boss NM below 70%. I am horribly sorry if it struck you the wrong way, what I said, when I was just trying to add more information to the conversation.

Personally, I'd say it is possible, given the right circumstances, but, you never know.

Personally, I've never seen any of the Besieged HNM generals actually get taken down. The lesser HNMs always die rather quickly and the generals end up retreating along with the rest of their respective hordes before we can finish them off.

Semi offtopic: I've personally seen Gurfurlur drop in front of me on the Alexander server, best besieged ever . I also found this vid showing the same besieged NM dying on another server http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHRgadifemc

          Ontopic:

With as much lag as there is in besieged atm, how much more chaotic can SE make Besieged? Is it feasible that throwing an HNM like Cerby into besieged even possible, heck.

Maybe if these HNM style mobs are indeed added as a lvl 7 besieged, perhaps they would become the main focus of the advancing armies attack force? Instead of sending Hundreds of warriors out to Al Zahbi the armies decide to charge in with a few warriors and the HNM? I guess it kind of fits, i mean, if you've been slaughtering countless monsters over and over, just where do they come from anyway?

Or maybe..., SE will add them in as a reset button to Besieged, a monster so strong and near unstoppable that it would only be sent on the attack raid after an army was significantly defeated several times in a last ditch attempt to take back the Astral Candy? That would suck >.>; but with the exp bonus gone it WOULD give people a reason to exp pt outside of Aht Urghan xP

Sure. If you think hitting for 0-1 for half an hour and then seeing the mob retreat at 50% HP is the most fun you can have in the game, go for it. Personally I'll be keeping generals alive and killing stuff like Phantasmal Puk, Killing Claw, Aerial Torpedoes etc. until the army retreats.

90% of the shouts I see in Beseiged are some variation on (|Mega Boss|) (|Where?|). Many before they have even popped. I'd love to be at a besieged where most of the shouts come from people who are actually fighting to win, but it just doesn't happen.

Obviously I can't dictate what anyone fights. I can *ask* people to actually care about winning the battle, but a lot of them usually won't.
And Medusa, Gulool Ja ja and Gurfurler have been defeated. Sure, in theory. And if they reduce the def and hp of those mobs, maybe in practice, too; but right now you can defeat the army in 15 minutes, or you can spend an hour bashing the leader while someone else defeats the army without your help.

It's the fact that people who spend their time on the mega boss drag out the besieged for everyone, contribute exactly as much to the win as an afk mule, but still get full reward, that... annoys me. Wasting 500 people's time for your own amusement shouldn't be rewarded. The designed objective of Besieged is to defeat the beastmen and defend the AC, and if that's not what you want to do, maybe you should go somewhere else.
But if SE doesn't keep ramping these up in some way, long term interest will dwindle when the next expansion hits.
Probably inevitable - unless they're going to have something valuable like shining cloth or behemoth hides start dropping, in which case they'll have to deal with many *more* level 1 mules that are just there to cast lots if something good drops - and in some ways, good. Besieged works a lot better with 300 people than with 700.
I do like the addition of the HNMs for this reason: it kills the whole "My level 40 WHM is more helpful than your 75 melee" argument. You're reading this entirely backwards. 75 melees can do real damage to the normal mobs - it's only on the HNMs where everyone whiffs or hits for 1 that people start to think that maybe someone who can reraise and raise others is more useful when everyone is going to get 1-shotted regardless of level.

As far as the drops from the beastman leaders, I was under the impression that they drop items if they manage to get defeated in their specific zones, or on the way to Al-Zhabi. No idea though if that's the case since no one has tried to do it or been able to do it that I can remember.

As far as Hydra, Cerberus and Khimaira attacking in Beseiged... it won't happen. At least I hope it never does, lag is bad enough as it is for most players. The general tone of the piece fits with most other Times articles which don't exactly follow the canon of the game universe.

This guy, Gurfurlur the Menacing, at least when he's putting Arcane Stomp on (which usually is almost all the time).
