    Re: Special Task Force (11/06/2006)

One thing I'm worried about is the "all third party tools" thing. I normally wouldn't have a problem running FFXI in full screen, and some times I want to. There are two things that make it so I can't though:

    1) PoL won't launch without running windower first. I can't even open it. it crashes every time, and the only solution I found is windower. I talked to FIVE tech staff and none of them could help me.

    2) It's hard to play without windower's gamma darken. It hurt my eyes before I found windower, and I used it ever sence because i's alot easier to use.

EDIT: And I'm not one of those who can say "once I'm suspended I'll stop", because I've already been suspended once. I have a very high suspition it was for using PoS to raise my promy-vhazl party after a wipe on the fourth floor. And I still didn't get to fight the boss(did clear all the minibosses at least...)

EDIT 2: Despite my worries this is something I am very happy with. Thsi shows that SE really cares about FFXI and if I do get banned, I'll be one of the first people playing SE's next MMO.

I know what you mean. Espically after the ToAU sanction color update, normal full screen ffxi almost blinded me @.@; and the whole everything bigger looking...

I wonder if these guys would pop in with like special GM style ninja armor and STF icon when confronting their targets or maybe do a [GM]Dave call style jorgy where the players K.O.ed insta warp to jail lol.

You can adjust gamma in the ffxi config you know.

SE, in my opinion, is to be commended. The explanation provided is convincing, in my view, and I'm confident there will be results. More than that, though, I appreicate how they are leveling with the players, and communicating with us frankly. This kind of announcement is respectful of the customers, imo. I'm glad I enjoy a game that has developers that are thoughtful and careful in the way they tweak, develop, and manage the game - unlike broken games like SWG that have undergone numerous dramatic, sweeping, resented overhauls; or games that are asthetically... 'less rigorous,' like WoW (just my opinion, of course).

Have we been playing the same game for the past 3 years? Because everything you just said is the total oppisite of what S.E has done.

On point 1) you say you cant run the game without windower, yet on point 2) you say you cant stand the gamma settings of the game without windower, i'm sorry if i sound intrusive, you either didnt clarify or im just assuming out of nowhere: how do you know what the gamma settings of the game are without running windower, if you cant run it without windower?

Anyway, is this the longest post by SE's part on these issues or what? i'm hopeful, and i dont even play much anymore.

Un untill about one and a half years ago, I was playing FFXI full screen. I DID use the gamma darkens in windower, but for whatever reason that only blurred the colors together. The one on Windower(F11, ot from control settings -> gamma) works just fine though.

It is dissapointing that SE couldn't let me play full-screen if I wanted to... but I will still be the first person in line for their next MMO.

I don't understand what this means.. can anyone explain?

                          Quote:
When canceling accounts, we have seen a trend towards account holders possessing multiple accounts. During the measures taken in July 2006 this trend was prevalent when banned accounts were held by over 2000 users. However, in October 2006 when 1,400 accounts were banned, the number of account holders had decreased to the 300 mark.
I believe this refers to multi-boxers, you know, the armies of Taru Blm that we always see running around at rank 1, same gear, doing repetitive actions. All those are different accounts being controlled by the same player. Those types of GSers are relatively new and only after the first 'big ban' SE did a few months ago.

                            Re: Special Task Force (11/06/2006)

I've been playing since the PS2 release of the game.

After playing this long, I've seen a lot of playing styles and can tolerate even some of the annoying ones. I did a stint where I considered myself an NM Hunter and, while it is worse now, there were RMT then. I really don't have a solution to the farming problems with RMT. When they steal my mining points I just set /autofollow and enjoy my new Mining Taxi. But, I think I can speak from experience on NM's.

For personal use, getting an item from an NM can take multiple claims which can translate into sitting in a zone for a long time, either killing PH's or just waiting for a pop. Some of the harder drops require almost obsessive camping. However, in this scenario, most non-rmt players wish to move on with their other goals in the game.

For gil earning (btw, I think camping NM's for gil is a waste of time), take the first scenario, but increase the amount of time spent there. However, here is where the difference exists: most real-players have something else to do, in real life or in-game, so there are times they are not camping the NM. These kind of campers I would call "Hogs." Annoying and rude but you can find times when they aren't there. This is how I got some of the harder drops before RMT became so prevalent. But again, all I had to do was check the zone periodically and figure out when they usually weren't there.

Finally, RMT. These guys fit into a category I call "Monopolizers." Rarely, if ever, are they not in the zone camping. They are pretty much 24/7. However, even if a Hog does the 24/7 thing, eventually they have to take a break. Monopolizers are different, whether it is RMT or multiple people sharing a character. The chance for a normal player, or even an obsessed player, to make a claim is greatly reduced if not nil.

Trying to balance playing styles while keeping RMT at bay, I would recommend a set number of claims over a set period of time which would trigger an investigation into the player. I'd set the number high but not so high that RMT could miss one claim in a month and not be investigated. I'm also recommending an investigation, not an automatic ban. But, I'd like to see one of 2 things come from that investigation:

                            1) If it's RMT, the GM will MPK them and then Ban their Account (please invite frustrated adventurers to observe the MPK)

                            2) If it's a real player but a Monopolizer, have a GM pull them aside and just discuss how this has a negative impact on other's game play. If they don't ease up, a Suspension may be in order. If the Suspension doesn't fix it then a Ban.

I'm trying to suggest a balanced approach that doesn't ruin it for the hard-core campers while giving others a chance to make a claim once and a while.

We do 3 runs a week to sky, an i always see RMT (6blm, 2 rdm an 2 pld) killing the pop nms. I have another group of friends who go another 2-3 days a week an see the same group killing placeholders. An JPN players i know who camp alot later on in the evening also see them there. An then once they get a pop item they put it right up for sale in there bazaar.

You would think this would warrant an investigation. Cause its clearly not an attempt to pop Gods, but to pawn off the items..

As long as an item is not "EX" then there is no reason you cant sell the item, if you sell autumnstones just because there is more demand then supply for them and you can make some good money its fine, SE just needs to change the NM pop conditions or something to make it less inconvinient for those who want to pop Byakko.
