Re: Action Taken Against Third-Party Tool Users (10/19/2006)

I don't think SE will ban people for just using the windower (they should ban people for using all the little plug-ins though), but it is much more likely that someone who uses the windower will use other 3rd party tools.

So the windower itself a good indication for where to start looking for cheaters.

So we're going to keep talking about Windower even though it has nothing to do with the bannings, I guess.

Who's talking about a windower?! I'm just excited and hoping some RMT are gone...they'll be back I'm sure...again...but at least they're gone for a little bit, right guys? I mean they can get back in their RMT parties...and do it again...and hopefully get banned...and have to do it over. Sigh RMT sucks, but at least some cheaters got banned, how many this time, like 1400 accounts over 28 servers? So about 50 accounts, that's good. :D

You can't really skip the windower talk after this kinda things because both go together (windower and 3rd party tools that is).

With that said I'm just happy they banned more cheaters.

I'm wondering if Zamphire managed to slip through the net again on this round of bannings and suspensions.

Regardless of what they may or may not do in the future, one thing is still perfectly clear.

                  SE bans hackers

That alone is something to celebrate

Point out where it Says they all were banned. S.E dont ban hackers, S.E puts them in the room for 24-72 hours.

Why no server names S.E?, why no names S.E? Honestly how much longer can you buy into this crap. Its the same message each month except they change the date an the number.

Dont use fleetool, an dont use postool, an S.E wont catch you.

You want them to list all 1400+ account names that have been banned? And I assume the bannings occurred across all the servers.

                        1) Listing the names would single those players out for harassment.
                        2) There's no way they'd publish a list of 1400 names.
                        3) Even if they did, that wouldn't prove anything.

Wonder if it was just movement hackers or if they finally figured out a way to track/destroy those wonderful NM bots using "Mr(InsertNMsNameHere)" programs. Those would be much more useful bans, IMO, since it'd really nail a lot of RMTs currently monopolizing 3 Kings, Ulli, and the like. Mine bots are annoying, (as are log bots, fish bots, crafting bots, etc), but they work in lower range gil items mostly. You can't really mine-bot Newton Movalpolos or Ifrit's Cauldron for Orichalcum or Adaman ores, at least with any hope of actually getting an ore. On the other hand, when you start botting something that drops a several million gil item, like Ulli and 3 Kings, you can pretty much destroy the top end of the economy without really trying.

And while we're on the subject of annoying Murphie, here, I'd like to point out that there's a big difference between a "suspension" and a "ban". No one who's used Windower exclusively has ever been "banned" by SE. They've incurred a few days' "suspensions", but unless they're also using some other hacks, no "bans". Windower is a DirectX code modification that has been around since I started playing Everquest back in 1996, and the program itself has likely been around since long before I started as I came two years late to EQ. Windower use only ended in EQ in 1998 when Sony Online Entertainment realeased the Shadows of Luclin expansion with it's own windowing program built in. Think about it, we're worried about TEN YEAR OLD CODE. In 10 years, Windows XP has been hacked and rehacked so many times it's not even funny. If there was a way to detect and destroy all Windower users, or shut programs like this down completely, it would have been in place before this game even launched. I'm betting you're not going to see a change to this anytime soon.

SE has a different way of treating Windower users than the way it uses to deal with someone using a movement hack or NMbot program. There's a big difference between the "I'm going to teach you a lesson" approach we get for Windower, and the "Ok, that's it! Take your ball and GTFO of my sandbox" approach to flee-hacks and botting. There are inherent risks to having a PC connected to the internet for any length of time, since no one really hacks PS2s and Xboxes to create Spam clones. I think SE understands this risk, and while they may not agree totally with it, they aren't going to be nazis about enforcement, either. As long as you keep your fat yap closed so you're not endorsing or promoting the program or its use in game, you probably don't have any reason to panic like one of Brittney Spears' kids every time they hear the car start.

And after seeing these threads pop up every freakin' time there's a mass ban, some of you really need to start getting this message. "Earth to Nutcase: Take another tranquilizer, your dosage is too low!"

A large amount of the NA playerbase use them, and in the end the windower in and of it's self(without plugins) doesn't do anything *too* bad. Maybe this 'chime with a tell' thing they added, which used to be accomplished through a 3rd party program, is a sign of things to come in that SE might reconsider adding some useful, but non game breaking aspects of some of the more used 3rd pt programs.

Though it's always nice to see SE crack down on the real cheaters, and since this has been a monthly occurance one can only assume this type of thing will continue to occur.
I completely agree. There was an interview... gotta locate the link, where SE devs were asked about windower.... let me find that interview.... ahhh here its....

                              http://killingifrit.com/forums.php?m...cc7b4723fdeaaf

If you read into some of the questions asked... SE is more than aware of windower and possibly it's many functions; they appear to even perceive it as a positive addition in many instances to the ffxi environment (however, it is still viewed as 3rd party). So I don't think a ban will happen for exclusive use of this particular tool... only because this allows SE to see what they may wish to incorporate into the game as another built-in benefit.

                              Just my opinion.
