  • Besieged Adjustments (10/10/2006)

    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics...28/detail.html

The next version update will bring several changes to Besieged, including level 6 forces, temporary items distributed at the outset of battle, and increased experience points and Imperial Standing credits.

    Changes to Besieged
Since the July version update that strengthened the beastman forces, Besieged battles have become longer and the benefits of participating decreased. In the next version update, the following measures will be introduced to provide more balance to Besieged:

    Level 6 Forces
The enemy forces will soon be able to increase to 160, and level 6 Besieged will be added. Level 6 Besieged will include notorious monsters that lead the enemy forces and other new enemies.

    Temporary Items
When Besieged begins, all participating players will be given temporary items, of which there are 15 varieties. The temporary items correspond to the 15 NPCs that can be taken prisoner during Besieged.

For example, when the Skyserpent General Rughadjeen is participating in battle, the temporary item "carnal incense" will be distributed to all players in the area.

Unused temporary items will disappear when Besieged ends.

    Experience Point/Imperial Standing Changes
    - Rewards for Participation
The amount of experience points and Imperial Standing players receive for taking part in Besieged will increase, and a bonus will be given to all participants at the end of Besieged for defeating the notorious monsters that lead an enemy force.

The higher the level of the enemy forces, the more experience points and Imperial Standing players will receive.

    - Retaking the Astral Candescence
The battlefield to retrieve the Astral Candescence became more difficult after the rate at which archaic mirrors appear increased. To encourage more players to tackle the battle, experience will no longer be lost in the event of KO in the battlefield to retake the Empire's greatest treasure.

Ooh! This looks good. Perhaps I will even take a shot at the AC BC now.

I wonder what the purpose of the temporary items will be? That's a pretty interesting addition right there though.

Looks like they'll be tossing in Ballista items. Carnal incense gives the user an "invincible" effect without the hate draw. Sounds pretty neat to me. I hope they give the one that resets job abilities, including 2 hour.

Heck, I'd hop in a Besieged just to use that item if I had just used my 2 hour.

Sounds like Carnal Incense would be handy for the NIN and SMN type Mobs. I've died to more than a few Mijin Gakures.

The main killer abilities in Besieged are Mijin Gakure, Astral Flow, and Radiant Breath.

Unless the XP gains are noticeably improved, I don't see this helping the current state of affairs. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I beg to differ, it might not help bring people in to defend, but the now no EXP loss from the AC battls is good. I know on Midgar we lose it and dont get it back for a week, I think our max is a week with no AC.

In addition to these changes, players /shouting {Yawn} at the end of a battle will have their exp and IS revoked. Additionally, players /shouting {Yawn} at the end of battles lasting three or more hours with no remaining generals will suffer an additional penalty of a kick to the head.

Ahh, then the update would be complete. I do besieged mostly for fun and skillups, but the exp and IS is a nice bonus and more exp and IS is a nicer bonus. Level 6 beastmen forces scare me. We have enough close calls vs level 5 undead swarm.

Heading the right direction. What I think would be nice though, is if SE REMOVED the cap on EXP and IS. Then what you do = what you get. That way level 25s running in and sucking up raises will only get ~300 EXP and IS, when if they went in on their 71 WHM and helped out, they could grab 3,000 EXP and if it was A long one, even 12kish. This might encourage more players to attend, especially those PLDs, WHMs, SMNs and BLMs who are excluded from Aht Urgan parties.

Too much exp and it would just be abused, although it would be nice if level 25's weren't sucking it up like you say. I'm pretty excited about this, cause I enjoy besieged, and personally, solo'ing on MNK outside for 30 mins I don't get half of what I get in Besieged...plus it's just more fun for me. And I use the IS to warp back home all the time, so I'd like to get some bonus IS @_@

Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

With increased exp you can count on even more low levels standing around spamming Cure IIs while you are wondering why the lag is so bad.

160 mobs... I really hope they dont mean all at once. I dont want to see my ping break 5k.

Ah, these changes seem to be pretty nice. Even if the level 6 raids smash us to oblivion, at least there won't be as much conflict on going to get the AC back. I'm hoping you can get at least up to 2k xp on a lvl 6 besieged. That would very easily encourage people to try to keep the AC, and would help push the 'solo content' aspect of ToAU that SE has stated before.

If I was a general I'd kick all the little Adventurers with a lvl 49 or below. I mean it makes sense to evacuate the weaker citizens when the city is gonna become a battlefield.

So why doesn't SE just kick everyone below lvl 50 out of the zone (I'd say everyone below 60 but I'd get mpk'd)?
