You do not know that. The description is vague at best. The idea is to prevent BLM from Manaburning everything not make BLM completely useless, which it would be if after casting Thunder once, everything else only hits for half or less.

        I do know that

        -Types of Affected Magic Damage
When a notorious monster is repeatedly hit by the following types of magic, it will accumulatively build magic resistance:

Black magic (elemental), white magic (divine), ninjutsu, magical blood pact abilities, magical blue magic, magical weapon skills (e.g., Spirits Within and Red Lotus Blade), and certain job abilities (e.g., Chi Blast and Mijin Gakure)
That clearly states, when you use magic, it gets a resistance to MAGIC, not "it will accumulatively build resistance to that element".

They also said that two BLMs probably won't notice the differance. So one thundaga III wont cut damage by half. If two BLMs can be constantly casting Thundaga and Blizzaga III and not notice a differance, it's going to take alot more than one spell to cut damage by half.

It seems like resistence will go down fairly fast so a player or two nuking normaly wont notice the difference, but if you have people casting over and over again it'll definitely make the resistence go up fast.

IF (and this is a big IF) they implement this well it wont affect XP parties or any kind of party with only a person or two nuking. But if they screw this up the days of magic dmg might be nearing to an end.

Wow, just wow. I guess we all had warning of this (certain comments Pre-ToAU), but I just wonder how it will affect Dynamis and Gods... But I'm wondering, why would they also affect things like Spirits Within and freaking Chi blast? Seems kind of strange, I never thought of them as "Magical", more like Non-elemental. Regardless, manaburn is far from dead, this is just on NMs and HNMs. Also, the 70+ SMN bloodpacts won't be affected, they are all Physical damage, so you could still SMN-burn stuff like Fenrir. I am really really worried about Dynamis though... how do you kill Statues when even a little tp can Seismo-Stomp your alliance into the ground?

As for Diabolos, I beat him with Rdm/drk Mnk War War Sam Smn.. beat the time record with 2 mins 30 sec. Gotta go all out with 2hours and ws if you want to survive.

This is good. I could use a Elemental Torque and Penitent's Rope cheap. Spread the word they're nerfing BLM.

The thing is though that 75% of BLMs are not true BLMs like you and me and teh true RNGs who didn't quit, they simply jumped on the bandwagon of that was "needed" for all the boss fights to furthur their char.

I agree. I play FFXI to have fun, and making one set of jobs less OMFG fantastic than they used to be is not always a bad thing. I think this will make people reevalutate some jobs that are often thrust to the side. Also, I don't think we know enough about what this change will entail to scream "BLM/SMN ftl. In all likelyhood, unless you have an all BLM alliance nuking a HNM or some situation equally laughable, you won't notice anything, except you may have to *gasp* think more about how you set up your party.

Bah, this bites. I just finished buying a good portion of my Blm gear. Maybe I should level something else for a while to take advantage of Weskit and low spell prices?

Cue the flooding of BLM gear into the AH.

We won't know until this is actually implemented, but it sounds minor to me. Stuff like ODS, Diabolos, etc where you need to simulcast is what this is supposed to combat, from the sound of it.

Of course people have to jump to the worst conclusions because they hear the word "adjustment." Watch it be as minor as the "Utsusemi nerf."

And before anyone tells me that I'm not worrying because I'm not BLM; this could very well affect me as a SMN. Nether Blast spam on Kirin, Solo ENM60, any situation where I have to 2hr...the list goes on. Keep a positive attitude and adapt the best you can.

                          EDIT: Spelling.

Re: New Notorious Monsters and Battlefields!(07/19/2006)

Maybe I'm just naive, but I don't think this is going to be THAT big a deal. As others have said, the fact that "one or two BLMs wouldn't notice the difference" would indicate that this is for those large-scale manaburn parties where they all Thundaga IV or whatever for 20,000 in cumulative AOE damage.

Also, to those saying "Do your UOs before the nerf" this is the exact kind of stuff SE wants to fix. For the record, NIN, BST, RDM, SMN, and BLU are all good in this situation. I've done this thing constantly with BST, NIN, SMN. And, assuming the "one or two won't notice the difference" thing is true, BLM shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Either way, this has been needed for quite some time. They might have taken it overboard, but you guys can still manaburn exp, so what's the big deal? Certain mobs MIGHT take longer to kill, and certain BCNMs and Missions might take longer/be impossible. Adapt. I adapted to the MPK fix, and that practically ruined the old way of soloing for BST.

On an ending note, anyone find it to be a slight case of poetic justice that BLMs complain because everyone's in a TP burn, when no melees were able to get a BLM or RNG because they were all burning for monster TP?

Hasn't been much discussion regarding the rest of this news. Seems Hydra will pop in an area of what looks like Wajaom Woodlands. If anyone's seen pictures of it scaled to other large mobs, you'll know this thing is HUGE. Can't wait to see it.
