    Besieged – Additions and Adjustments(07/10/2006)

Since its introduction in the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc, Besieged has become far more popular than the development team ever anticipated.

This popularity leads to certain victory with little need for strategy on almost every World, as hundreds of players unite to repel the beastman hordes. With the gradual adjustments that have been implemented, it is now possible to witness the furious battle unfolding within Al Zahbi. However, many players have voiced their desire to participate in a more strategy-based Besieged.
With this aim in mind, the following adjustments are planned for the upcoming version update.

    New Notorious Monsters

With the addition of Notorious Monsters that require more than just numbers to defeat, Al Zahbi will find itself under attack from even more powerful beastman armies.

    Invading the Beastman Bases

The composition of the armies advancing on Al Zahbi will be greatly affected by attacks on the beastman bases.
Invading the home ground of the savage beastmen and weakening their forces will become an essential step in the defense of Aht Urhgan's capital.

We are aware that the crowding that accompanies the Besieged event overwhelms the processing power of many clients, and prevents a smooth gaming experience.
The standard solution to this issue would be to restrict the number of players in the area; however, we feel that hundreds of characters of all levels participating in the same battle is what makes Besieged so popular in the first place.

We have no plans to restrict or remove this new feature based on hardware issues. While there is no simple solution, we intend to continue making adjustments that will improve players' enjoyment of Besieged.
We are also planning on implementing measures in the next version update that will address issues associated with insufficient memory for certain types of hardware.

I think that is what they are saying in that line kolid, that the players will need to "Besieged" the beastmen strongholds, but as per usual SE is being ultra vague. I am lookin forward to it, should be interesting twist, that and i have never done a prisoner or astral cadence resque so i have never had a reason to go explore the beastmen strongholds this would be a good reason to

having unique models for beastman NMs sounds interesting... Will there be more NMs where the model discerns from the normal family it is in? Cause the only NMs I know that do this currently are land Kings...

You are. Land kinds share models with a BCNM version. Mission NMs are the only truly used once models, especially the boss of CoP because you only see him once.

                      Re: New Besieged Info

What they need to do is spead people out more. Easiest way I see to do that is keep people confined to each block.

Like, 100 per block (There's 4) and 200 in the parade, and the last 100 in the bastion. Best way to do it would keep a draw-in effect if you leave your area. Make it so beastmen randomly get bored and change to a different area, to keep one place from being too advantagious.

They could also give you a Tracker for your General depending on which block you were placed in, similar to widescan. People in the main blocks would get their generals, and people in the bastion would get a tracker for whatever monster is highest priority.

Monsters wouldn't linger once they were attacked, at first, they'd spread themselves out through Al Zahbi before they started fighting.

Then again, they could just lower the area limit on amount of people, or use an idea I mentioned before to keep AFKrs out.

                        Re: New Besieged Info

i could swear i had something along the lines of what you said on my post feba o.O might have been deleted accidentally when i edited the post.. orz..

i think alzabi should be made much larger, so that people are more scattered around

have more bastions, each with a general, make them laaaaaarge, something like rulude gardens large (who else thinks alzabi is rrreally tiny compared to.. say.. windurst?), enclose these bastions and dont allow mobs to break the doors until everyone (or a percentage) inside a bastion is DEAD, yea thats right, why do mobs break doors automatically while theyre being attacked by people? in the end mobs would only reach the candy if they managed to break into a couple bastions, if the candysense door should be severed, all bastions should be opened in order to let people rush into the candy room and try and do something about it

every bastion should have an exit to the outside, so that it made sense how mobs got into the bastions, in reality bastions would simply be used as garrisons, in war it makes sense to divide and conquer, and in defensive maneuvers scattering your enemy is a good measure too

other things that would make besieged much more interesting that ive been thinking of:

/signal <t>, this would only work if your target is an general, this sends a /echo to everyone in the zone of the position of the general, many people filter out shouts and other chat logs, also a special dot would pop in your radar showing the position of the general

/aid <t> target a mob and send a distress call that simply pops a special dot on your radar for a potential NM or serious threat

when half a bastion's defenders are dead, send a distress call to everyone in the zone, warning them that the bastion might break soon, so that the nearest bastion can be prepared, when a bastion door breaks, some mobs flush in, the others remain in their original bastion to get rid of people who get raised and stuff

a very nice addition would be having some sort of "jobs" in besieged, special jobs that you can choose to further aid in battle, each special job gets a set of temporary items:

medic, carries items that can raise others, phoenix down anyone? also gets a bunch of special potions that you can only use in besieged

scout, carries smoke bombs used to confuse mobs, also a grapple used to hold a mob in place, this mob can only attack you or stand still

taunter, carries a set of items that forces a mob to follow you for a while, and an item that speeds your movement, something like flee-speed

and the mechanic, they fix doors, however fixed doors would be weaker, due to the little time mechanics would have to fix a door... and they could also help holding doors by standing next to a door and clicking it, this technically gives your HP to the door, adding that much defense to the door, you might end up dead, but its not like you hoped to survive besieged anyway right.. get the PLDs holding the doors :D

all this for what? some of us want to play besieged without worrying about tactics, this just ends in dozens of people zerg-rushing a mob, making everyone concentrated in one place... if we give SOME people the choice to play a more tactical role, then thats one less person in the crowd.. so youll have taunters pulling the mobs away from doors, medics raising people all around, scouts delaying monsters and mechanics making sure the doors are re-constructed, that coupled with other people zerging the mobs turns into a very spread out crowd

ofcourse those items would be limited and using them would contribute to the ammount of exp and IS you would get

what would this imply? assuming a spell effect can be transfered onto an item, which doesnt sound impossible, the medics would probably be covered, the scout using a grapple would be the same as a shadowbind, a smoke bomb would be the same thing as that anima item you use on promy bosses that confuses them, a taunt is the same as a provoke.. and also restoring walls doesnt sound like its impossible to do

id adding a bit of variety could get people more scattered around, then im all up for it

... i wrote alot o.O... just my random thoughts..

While this would probably be very hard to work in for players (Medic? Why not just go in as WHM?), I could see NPCs going around with these jobs. It would make it a little easier if you have an NPC going around doing Raises, or confusing monsters, or whatever. But as for players using these... probably not.

The ideas are good, bt some would require a complete re-do of the Al Zahbi zone, and others would restrict anybody who is just passing through while there's a Besieged on.

this made be actually cuckle. first off is anyone really able to witness the furious battle that goes on during a bedsieged? i mean all i see is 1 or maybe 2 monsters. an then half the time the monster clips over an area, so i am unable to do any real damage. an there in lies my next biggest problem. why is it that with 50 acc, an 6 merits towards my axe, can i not hit the mob unless i am using food. to me thats a little extreme. lol besieged is worse then dynamis after a horrid 900 mob pull.

i dont remember any petitions passed out complaining about the lack of strats in Besieged. then again i cant remember reading a post on here or KI complaining about it either. Too many peeps in the zone, yes. the fact u cant zone in. yes. the horrid lag, yes. the fact some seem to get booted near the end of every battle, yes. the lame exp given for 30 mins of fighting, yes. now those are posts ive read thru, not how we need more strats in besieged.

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.
