It really isn't baseless paranoia, it has happened before, but that's irrelevant. If you feel comfortable or not using your ID is a personal matter, the real question is if you are willing to gamble with your account on a daily basis.

    I am not.

Re: LS Community beta launch! (29/6/06)

I've been looking around a lot more and I really like it. I just wish that:

1.) They'd had this from launch (because I think more folks would use it).

2.) More of my LS could be bothered to log on to things like this. As it is, we can't even get most of them to check the LS forums for event times and quest info.

      "Is there Dynamis tonight?"

"Well gee, if you just checked the LS site where Dynamis times are clearly posted, you'd know, wouldn't you?"

      /sigh

        Question about the system:

Can you lead a community and join another community?

Seems like it. There is an option to switch communities in the upper right hand part of the screen.

            Awesome, thanks Ael.

Just tried that, think I tried it last night...

Only the shell that I made the community for is up in that drop-down box.

              Found the problem!

You have to go into your personal preferences, uncheck "Set this Community as Default", confirm, say it's okay (2 confirmations is kind of dumb), log out, log in, and THEN you're good.

WARNING: This may not be true. When I entered my information and clicked "Log in" in Firefox, I got a window warning me that "Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party." and asking if I wanted to continue or cancel.

Now, it's possible that Firefox is generating a bogus warning, but it's also possible that the login system for this has a serious security hole. It IS a beta, after all. At any rate, I won't be using it until I at least find out more about where this warning is coming from and whether or not it reflects a serious security problem.

It does look nifty, though. If there is a security hole, hopefully they can fix it.

I get the same message via Firefox. It's probably just being overly cautious.

In this situation its just Firefox being cautious. The information is sent over encryption but the next page is unencrypted triggering the warning. Now is this was a shopping site or a banking site then this would be a really big deal.

But I will say, I really really wish they would allow you to use a different password due to there is a lot of incentive to break into MMORPG accounts.

I figured it was just firefox being a sissy because I have a router.

Has anyone else had problems registering with communities? I have two pearls, and whenever I try to register myself with either one on the site, I get:

"The request could not be processed because the server is currently busy.
                        Please try again later."

I have tried several times, at various times of the day and different days, and always get this error.

Aparently SE is well aware of my concerns about ID and passwords.

It is recommended that you change your PlayOnline password on a regular basis. This can be done through the "Service & Support" screen accessed from the PlayOnline Menu. Choose "Membership", select "PlayOnline ID", then select "Change Password".

So why oh why don't they just let us create an aditional User name and password for LS communities and Friend List Plus so we don't risk our POL ID every single time.

That notice doesn't really haev anything to say about the POL Community. It's saying don't give it out to other people, and don't log in as User on someone else's PC.

Could be because you're the only one that thinks it's a risk. That notice was about giving out your information to others.

I know this isn't about comunities, but I'm talking about the risks involved on using your ID and password to log in on online services risking getting it recorded by a keylogger. If they know it has happened before why not just give a different username and password for stuff like communities and friend list plus?
