    Re: Chocobo Raising FAQ

Yes, it seems you will get 2 eggs one for each player, that is a good thing! I am still puzzled if you will loose your chocobo after a while.

As far as how long you'll have your Chocobo, I think it sounds like they are really pushing the breeding part. This way you can always have a chocobo but I doubt you'll have more than one at a time.
What's the point of having a chocobo if you can't actually ride it?

This just went from somewhere around a 9 on the awesome meter down to about a 1.

        Re: Chocobo Raising FAQ

They said that it would unbalance the game if you could ride them because the chocobo stables would be obsolete. I think its bs but hey, its their game.

As for breeding, I think they will try to encourage it. One way to encourage it would be to have a limited time with your chocobo. This way you would be more likely to breed so you wouldn't have to run around and find another egg. It's also possible that when you breed and you get an egg that there will be an incubation period. Possibly after this period when the egg hatches the other chocobo leaves?? I just don't see being able to have a stable of chocobos, they are always so tight with their resources and whether the PS2 can handle it and blah blah blah....I'm sure they will have an excuse.

I'll probably take part in chocobo raising as much as I take part in all the other lame crap in this game (i.e. crafting, mining, fishing, excavating, digging, harvesting, and logging), which is never.

This was a bit ambiguous… Like many, I am now assuming that each breeder will receive an egg. Which is fine by me. Of course, this didn't answer the ancillary question of what happens to the parent chocobos.

They also seemed to only fog up the method at which chocobos will be used. Specifically with the "special abilities" question. Why would a chocobo need special abilities in a race (Pimp My Bird!) or breeding?

Further, why not answer the color question? What's the big secret to knowing the colors of chocobos? Yes, we can assume a black or gold chocobo would be the top-tier bird, but that is just an assumption. You could list pink, yellow, orange, purple or whatever and it would mean absolutely nothing to us other than knowing that there is that color chocobo written into the game's code.

Don't you remember that they're implementing chocobo racing into the game?

IMO, you raise a chocobo, depending on the strenght of your bond, the faster the chocobo will go. This is going to be somewhat like the FFVII Chocobo mini game.

Brood mare, I feel like there's potential use as an insult there.

Being "pleasently surprised" by breeding outcomes almost surely means we'll end up with two eggs, but I just can't help wonder what else they have up their sleeves. Like, after they finished breeding they cracked a few of their eggs and made me breakfast and I was pleasently surprised? Or they did the Chocobo dance from FF7 and then told a few "What's the deal with...?" jokes?

What I want to know is, if you can't ride them, what is the point of having different colored chocobos? Only thing I can think of is them being better at racing...

And also, whats the point of getting a rare chocobo if its just going to leave you?

                          Re: Chocobo Raising FAQ

well it's all still speculation after that. maybe the gives special abilities will be for the racing? maybe they will be primarily for the racing. maybe the will give a chocohancement (similar to moghancment).

It looks to me thet they will effectivly have a a lifespan even if they don't die (they leave in a nice, happy way instead) however you'll be able to breed it before then to get a replacement egg.

I think it seems interesting that it seems like you can only have one and have to breed with someone elses choco, could be an interesting dynamic, new "social" activity. If it's mutually beneficial then one party shouldn't be holding another over a barrel. Which means it might not be so easy to exploit this for gil. Alternatively it might end up with those with rare chocobos hoarding the breeding rights and selling them to the highest bidder. either way it sounds like lots of jeuno/al zahbi shouts.

                            A. No, your chocobo cannot die. However, there is a limit to the length of time a chocobo can be under your care.

I don't like the sound of this, unless they mean neglecting your chocobo...

Perhaps the "pleasant surprise" is that the newly bred chocobos are somewhat better (for racing or w.e) than the parents. We pretty much all doubt that we'll be able to own more than one chocobo at any given time, but it would make sense that your old chocobo leaves you after you recieve a new/better one. If this is indeed the case, people will seek out decent mates for their chocobos, and (I hope this isn't the case) some people would probably charge money to have another chocobo mated with their 1337 ByRdy (-_-. . .damn i hope not. lol
