The FINAL FANTASY XI development team has finally addressed everyone’s cries for a system to raise their own personal chocobos. As announced at the FINAL FANTASY XI Fan Festival 2006 in Santa Monica, this new feature will be introduced in the next version update!

Raising Your Chocobo

[Basic Concept]
Think of chocobo raising as an upgraded version of gardening. You can raise a chocobo by taking care of it for a minimal amount of time each day over a span of roughly 1-3 months, so even players with little time can enjoy this feature. Your chocobo may come in handy when it is fully grown!

[Chocobo Eggs]
Your first step is to get hold of a chocobo egg. Each egg is encoded with its own specific genetic information, and some players may come across an extremely rare variety…

[Caring For Your Chocobo]
You must work together with the chocobo stable employees in order to properly care for your chocobo. Feeding your chocobo and spending a bit of time with it each day will gradually build trust. You will be amazed at how your chocobo grows!

Chocobo Variety
Chocobos differ based on their color and type…and possibly more. Naming will be handled in the same way that dragoons and puppetmasters select their wyvern or automaton’s name, but there will be more options than ever before!

Matchmaking
Match up your chocobo with your friend’s chocobo and see what happens. If the match is right, you could end up with a new baby chocobo!

Scores of other exciting features are scheduled to be added in the next version update, so keep checking the main site for more information in the next few days!

Chocobo breeding was fun in FF7, hope its as fun this time round... time toi be looking out for those rare eggs soon! And i hope this is after my summer holiday the patch, or ill be 2 weeks of unchecked chocobo >.> /panic it will hate me!

People have found the models of Red Blue Green and Black chocobos, I beleive, and about the eggs... Well, my guess is Apakallu's

You know they're going to screw this up.


I predict:

-Eggs will be a drop off of King Behemoth and be Rare/Ex.

-To incubate them, you have to trade them to a ??? Ro'Maeve.

-To raise them you have to trade them and Orichalcum ore each day. Or they die.

-Chocobos will not be rideable. They will instead act as furniture and give Moghancement:Water.

-The "rare" eggs will be a 1/10000000000 drop and every other egg will be a yellow chocobo.

-Occasionally, your egg eill hacth to reveal chocopasses, instead of a chocobo.

-The name list will include 18 variations on the name "Chobi." And that's it.


Seriously, this could be one of the most incredible new additions to the game.

The operative word there is 'could.'

I'm hoping this works out.

Like gardening? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

What about people like me, that can only play on weekends.
I tried gardening. It worked for 2 days. The week later they were dead.

I don't want a dead Chocobo.


Wait. What about a Chocobo nursary for people that work? Or the new job Chocobo Nanny.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be too disappointed if I got a regular yellow chocobo. Just as long as I can baby it from a little eggy. This will be so, so much fun. I love features like this in any game. Taodyn's post scares me though.

As much as I'd like to hope that this won't involve some rare and difficult to obtain (read: expensive) item, I sincerely doubt they'd make it that easy.
