Re: Puppetmaster - (04/17/2006)
When I saw "giant automaton-like being that appears in Aht Urhgan's founding myth", I though... omg Alexander!
In what way is Odin automaton-like?
Anyway, in regards to PUP, it doesn't look like they will need consumable items, except for that automaton oil for Repair. There's no indication that killing the puppet breaks some of its parts or anything like that.
Carrying around all your automaton equipment as well as your own is going to be a pain, though. No wonder they added more storage... well, maybe it will turn out that using 12 attachments isn't such a great idea anyway because it reduces the amount that any individual attachment gets used.
One interesting point is that there doesn't seem to be any mention of level requirements on attachments (or heads and bodies, for that matter). Does that mean the supply of available parts is exactly the same from 1 to 75 and only the power of their effect varies with the automaton's level? That really doesn't seem like the way SE usually does things.
Since the automaton is largely...well...automatic, I expect /WAR in parties, to try to do some damage alongside the automaton (which might be set up for straight damage, some support/healing, or possibly even tanking). Solo opens up a lot more possibilities - will the PUP tank with the automaton healing, or vice versa with Repair? Or will they trade off hate, both doing some damage, and healing each other? Will the PUP need to sub WHM to heal himself or NIN so his automaton can keep up with the damage that gets through Utsusemi?
