well, this is the box scan from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=468642
even though they say media is CDROM, you'll notice the box scan says DVD
    Attached Files

Well it cost less. DVD is as cheap as CD in bulk if not a bit more, but close enough.

It's just cheaper and faster to make a dvd then a 4disc CD set.

Oh and cases add up too, when you package by the thousands.

Since ffxi never seem to have protection(there's no need when you have a serial number online reg). You can always make an image of it, and mount it like daemon tools or such.

Of course I wonder if anyone that lacks a dvd drive would also lack networks and HDD space also... but there's a situation for everyone.

My old computer didn't have a dvd drive, because it was built with spare parts.

a word of warning to future posters: FFXIOnline.com does not allow the posting of ISO/image/torrent requests or links of copyrighted material (in this case the ToA expansion disk). Please do not make such posts, you will be issued a warning from now on.

I truely do feel sorry for those who are left out by SE's decision regarding this, but piracy is piracy.

          Thanks Yyg!

Should also be a more up to date version so less downloading once installed think I might do the same...

Weren't CD-ROM versions still popular in the sates? Over here in Blighty CD_ROM is going the way of the dodo...

I understand being bitter about them changing the format, requiring you to have a dvd-rom, but like FC pointed out, they're 20 bucks. You're already paying 50 for the game whats another 20? I'm not trying to say everyone has this kind of money, but if you can buy the game with no problems, I don't see the problem with buying another drive. Hope everyone who's getting screwed over can get it worked out.

from what I see, newer games either release with both DVD and CD, or only CD.
Haven't seen many games releasing only DVD yet :O

I only use FFXI on my PC. I have no other PC Games, I only use my PC for browsing the internet/e-mail and word processing. Of course I can "afford" buying a DVD-ROM, but it's a little upsetting that just to play the expansion pack of the one game I play, I have to buy and install a new drive. It's like instead of the expansion being $29.95 for me, it's $49.95 or more. Now how fair is that?

Not to mention installing hardware in a PC is completely foreign to me. I thought I was done once I finally figured out how to install that damn Graphics Card.

Of course, I'll probably end up giving in and buying a freaking new drive. Then spend a few hours installing it, etc. But to me this is really a kick in the teeth from SE. You can't alter graphics/memory due to PS2 capabilities but you can have PC users require a DVD drive just to save a few cents per package? I mean, come on...

I do understand the bitterness, trust me. Do you not have a techno geek friend? I thought everyone had atleast one? I'd be screwed if it weren't for my roomate and a few other friends.
I think part of the reason may be that dvd-roms are becoming so much more commonplace along with the fact that ps2 games are dvd-based. That may add to the money saved by just going to one basic format.

Well, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are right around the corner. It's high time CD-based games went the way of the dodo, in my opinion.

Surprisingly, I'm considered more "techy" in my group of friends. Most don't touch PC Games at all. I'm sure I can read the manual or Google something to get it set up. I'm not too worried about that, I'm good with following directions.

Sorry for turning this into a personal rant from me. I think I've been reading Alla too much. Bottom line is I wish SE would have better "eased" into DVD-ROMs, if that's the route they want to take (i.e. Optional CD-ROMs -- a few bucks more expensive? Fine by me). I think I'll just take my bitch session into the appropriate channels of SE.

it actually sets up just like CD drive. replace the CD drive with DVD drive without any settings and bam, windows will know it.
