  • Mog Lockers (04/05/2006)

Mog Lockers are one of the special “benefits” of being an employee of the mercenary company Salaheem’s Sentinels.

This private locker is initially provided free of charge, and its contents are managed by a familiar moogle-based system. Paying an expansion fee will grant you access to additional space for storing items.

Although the Mog Locker is initially free, using this service even once will require you to keep up periodic “lease” payments in order to retain access to your stored items. A convenient system for overburdened adventurers but in the words of President Naja Salaheem, “A coin paid out from the company coffers will find its way back eventually.”

    Mog Lockers

The development team is aware that players have been experiencing difficulties finding room for excess equipment and has been working on a solution.

Limiting the amount of space available for storing items was part of the original game design, however the sheer volume of new equipment and items introduced through various updates and events has overloaded the humble Mog Safe to an unexpected degree.

Expanding available storage space requires overcoming several problems such as increasing the amount of savable character data, as well as considering the extra memory for displaying client-based information.

With the release of Treasures of Aht Urhgan, the development team is pleased to announce that the issues concerning character data and display memory have been solved with the introduction of a separate storage facility--the Mog Locker.

The Mog Locker is scheduled to become available in the early stages of the new Treasures of Aht Urhgan missions. The availability of a new storage facility will have a direct effect on Vana’diel’s economy, and so to help balance this new element we have introduced the concept of a locker “lease.”

A single payment will give you access to a Mog Locker for the period of time set out in the lease. If you allow your lease to expire, you will lose access to the items stored within your Mog Locker. These items will not be permanently lost, but will simply be unavailable until another lease payment is made.

We first considered having the Mog Locker lease payable in gil. However, with the total amount of gil circulating in Vana’diel seeing a continued decline, we decided to change the payment to require items exclusive to the Treasure of Aht Urhgan areas. It will be possible to trade these items, as well as find them on the auction house.

When the Mog Locker is first introduced its use will be limited to Rent-a-Rooms in the Treasures of Aht Urhgan areas. It will initially have 30 item slots available, and can later be expanded to 50 slots.

Allowing Mog Locker use in other areas, as well as increasing the maximum number of item slots, will be considered for future version updates.

In the upcoming version update, it will be possible to view the contents of your Mog Safe, Storage, and Mog Locker from any location, not just inside your Mog House.

We hope the introduction of the Mog Locker will add to your enjoyment as you adventure in the world of Vana’diel!

I wouldn't beleave all you read about the memory issues.

Expanding available storage space requires overcoming several problems such as increasing the amount of savable character data, as well as considering the extra memory for displaying client-based information.
The amount of savable data is no different whether an addition item is going into your inventory, your mog safe, storage or a locker.

Client side it will use slightly more VRAM but nowhere near as much as adding new models / equipment does, yet they seem to have no trouble adding them.

We first considered having the Mog Locker lease payable in gil. However, with the total amount of gil circulating in Vana’diel seeing a continued decline, we decided to change the payment to require items exclusive to the Treasure of Aht Urhgan areas. Sounds interesting, I wonder if it going to be a kind of Chocobo ticket for storage and where are these going to come from initially?

So, we need to be a mercenary? By this i am assuming we will have to do a miniquest perhaps to activate the service?

This would be a great addition to keep your AF and no-so-used rare ex items.

Mmmmmmmm, maybe this "lease" is a way of compensation the cocobo fees that MIGHT dissapear on day if we ever get out own chocobo...

            any comments?

I am sure you are NOT alone here, unfortunatley I dont see that happening anytime soon.

I foir example, tried to migrate to PC and i coudldnt stand the keyboard configuraiton. I am lefthanded and i think that makes it every more difficult?

This game as a strong JP ps2 base, so rule out that possibility!

for all we know, the amount of VRAM on PS2 is a joke, but it's also obvious that it's almost impossible now to get rid of all PS2 users out of Vana'diel.

they should be able to simply add "mog safe #2" given the fact that the amount of VRAM on PS2 is a primary reason s-e is giving us for not being able to expand the safe beyond 80, as a maximum number displayable at a time.

but they r never gonna give us another safe in our mog houses, that we know for sure lol

                  btw,

In the upcoming version update, it will be possible to view the contents of your Mog Safe, Storage, and Mog Locker from any location, not just inside your Mog House.
maybe not many ppl r familiar, but there's already a command "/storage" that lets us view the contents of the storage, from anywhere in Vana'diel. of course, those of mog safe can be accessed from the menu, too.

they wrote it as if they were adding it as a new feature, but actually it's hardly new.

I think this is actually a very very good idea. I am always struggling to keep 4 or 5 slots available on my inventory.

I agree but as was said getting rid of PS2 users is not really an option. And stupid yes stupid sony, looking at a possible HIGH priced PS3 will keep those options to near nil for at least another year or more.
I am all for getting rid of it trust me. the PS2 has the EXACT same Vram as the PS1, 4 MB.

                        the suck.
I do love the idea of storage in AU areas.

PS2 version won't be going away any time soon.

At GDC this year, Sage Sundi divulged information regarding the userbase of FFXI. According to the report, the Japanese make up about 55% of the FFXI userbase, and they play on the PS2 version on a 2:1 ratio to the PC version. The North American and European players take up about 45% of the entire userbase, and although nearly twice as many players from those regions of the world play on PC, a considerable amount of people worldwide still play FFXI on the PS2.
