    Re: RMT Countermeasures

This action is really just a drop in the bucket, but I'm just glad they've recognized the problem and decided to take some action to try to help. Really I don't know how one would go about stopping RMT entirely, but at least they're doing SOMEthing.

        Re: RMT Countermeasures

Well, I agree with the general consensus that this banning and gil removal is very little very late, I decided to hop over to one of the popular Gil Seller sites to see how they were doing and how they were responding to the situation.

I think that the impact has been a little more than some people realize. Certainly not a "solution" but definately more than a drop in the bucket.

A week ago, the gilseler site I visited offered gil at about $10-$15 per milion, depending on server, and all servers were fully in stock and offering ammounts between 1mil -> 100mil.

As of today, prices are now between $20-$40 per milion depending on the server, half of the servers are only offering low incrament ammounts (5mil or less), and about a quarter of the servers are simply out of stock.

Curious, I did a little more poking around and checking out sites like IGE, and it seems that all around the RMT groups, prices have nearly doubled and stock has been cut in half. In many cases, large quanties of gil have gone up from $300-$600 (post chirstmas prices) to well over $1,500 today.

Like I said, not a "solution" per say, but more than a drop in the bucket.

Nice! That is what I like to here, sevenpointflaw! Now the day I see all those sites say they will no longer be providing gil, I will be able to celebrate officially.

4 and 5 dollars on some servers. They had banners for it on KI and others.

Small claims suit at most. Not worth the money for lawyers and court proceedings to get a couple bucks from kids. Not to mention the bad press that would inevitably follow.

Well, SE did this before, and the RMT bounced back. This is temporary at best. It will help for a little while, but they will come back.

                      Re: RMT Countermeasures

All of the notorious RMT'ers were still on my server as of last night. The only difference is they are sending gil to a new Mule character.

Here's the thing that gives me hope though. SE has OBVIOUSLY been watching who the farmers have been sending their gil to and banned the "bank" accounts. What's to stop them from waiting for one of these mules to get a stockpile of gil again, and BANG, ban then again. IMO, this would lead to some immense frustration for the gil-selling companies and might force them to say screw it and just give up FFXI altogether for another game.

By my calculations, the gilselling industry lost between 3-5 million REAL dollars in revenue for this "bust", and that is not including the wages paid to employees, operating costs, and monthly payments to SE for all the characters. I am talking about sellable revenue. Think about that... 3-5 million with the snap of a finger. Not only that, but by my estimation, even if each RMT'er can pull in 300k an hour (generous guess) it would take 1 MILLION man hours to farm 300 billion gil. SE just took away 1 million hours worth of work from them.

But like true cockroaches, they have not given up. SE has shown they are not afraid to go for the roots and hit them where it hurts. Hopefully this will continue on a regular basis until they just give up out of frustration, or it's no longer financially viable for them to rape FFXI anymore.

                      God willing...

So thats only 5o,ooo,ooo each and I know many people on my server only that have well over 3oo,ooo,ooo each.
Not sure if I did the math right, but @20USD for 2000k gil (I think that's what it was after xmas) works out to about 3,000,000 USD worth of gil lost.

Just a thought: has anyone considered the possibility that the holiday gil sales were the RMTers trying to liquidate what they knew was about to be deleted?

Also, when SE bans, exactly what are they banning? A single content id? An IP? A subnet? I hope when these guys get banned they at least have to go buy new copies of the game. Maybe the extra sales will encourage SE to keep up the bannings.

im pretty sure they are banning ip and pol account so they would need a new copy of the game.

They not only lose the account, they have to buy another copy of FFXI and Content IDs. Thats more money they lose.

                                This is from another forum:

Last I looked gil was 10mil for $50. SO that means that 100mil is $500 and 1billion gil is $5000. So I took 5000 and multiplied it by 300 and got ........

$1,500,000.00 total lose for IGE and IGE type companies.
