SE has announced that there is a good possiblity that you will be able to keep your beta characters into retail!

I think SE should keep the Hydra server open and let the PS2/PC join in. That way you would wouldn't see player buying stocks of good that are going to sell for 100x on other server before the transfert. Also the economy on Hydra is acceptable. Some players might enjoy that feeling of being able to buy some armor/crystal at the AH without the need to farm for X days.

On US beta, we had to start from scratch in an economy already in operation with JPN players. We obviously have done well for ourselves in that turn. Why should it be any different? They need to do some hand-holding and pandering to the xbox360 beta players, otherwise they might lose some of them just like they lost some beta players when we switched to a live game.

Will they keep Hydra up, maybe. If you look at the numbers they're quoting though, you'll see they need to perform a world transfer of people off of hydra onto other servers to balance populations. Of course they probably won't announce a world transfer to new or existing servers until march/april/may. Initially mention it in may, release expansion in march, and perform it in may once you have an influx of xbox360 players to active servers.
