Yeah, unfortunately the FFXI Fan Festival 2006 is only being held in California. It's like 30 bucks I think.

Sucks for anyone not living on the West Coast of the USA. They really need to bring some events to the East Coast, and definitely Europe and Canada.

I'd go if I wasn't going to visit my sister during Spring Break. D'oh!

Hmmm, I wonder if you just register but don't show, do you still get the rod? If not, then I believe alot of people are going to get shafted.

Do I have to attend to receive my Gobbie Bag and in-game item?

You must attend to receive your Gobbie Bag. You don't have to attend to receive your in-game item…just be sure to enter your correct world name and character name when you register. (But we'd love to see you there!)



BTW it's $85 bucks to preregister.

Ya......so........I love moogles........so off I go to register just to get the item because I can not attend the event. Ya riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!! $85 for a moogle staff!!? Lord knows I was tempted but that little voice in my head said "OMG if your husband finds out he'll beat you with it!!" LOL So...ummm...ya....{No, thanks.}

Its a bit much, they shoudln't make exclusive items for a very small minority, its unfair on everyone else, I would be really suprised if SE do anything like that here in the uk. lets hope they make the rod Rare ex so people can't put it on the AH for a ridicleous amount of gil, because people will!!!

They have an event that people may be travelling miles and miles to go, and to award these trekkers, they give an in game item. Sort of like Ballista championship caps, we cant really say its unfair that all the winners get the Laurels, those select few who won etc.... I mean lol theres an action and a reward for that action. If you do not take action to earn the reward, then just oogle ^^...

Why is it unfair? It's a fluff item.

Like the limited edition "Wish you were here" shirts or something. It's just for fun attendees or the desprate fanboys/girls.

They'll probably give it out on other event attendees too if the one in Sandy is a hit.


Now if it was an item that cast lvl all doom on enemies...then that would be outright unfair.

It's not powerful nor useful, just fun.

Maybe because paying customers in Europe constantly get ignored by S-E whenever they announce events. We were excluded from all previous Fan Festivals and Ballista Royale. Additionally, even after European release they never adjusted maintenance times so consequently Europe gets hit at primetime on every update day ie 5-7pm start for anywhere up to 8 hours usually.

Even so, I think it's disgusting they pull this carrot-and-stick trick with people hinting at some wonderful ability yet allowing you to pay $85 and get the staff knowing you'll not even attend the event. That right there is tantamount to condoning gil-buying. Hey guys, we know you're loyal customers and addicts and for only $85 you can have this special item even if you live miles away because $$$ > all.

Any word on the stats on the Moogle rod? If it had like, teleport + warp capabilities, yeah i'd pre-register.... maybe =p. I'd more or less just toss a coin. Without knowing the stats though, i highly doubt it. Another thing i noticed in that snip of the FAQ; they mentioned a chance to have the item. So, you can sign up and pay all you want, but you may not get the item... i'd say it is a straight up scam if SE was hosting it -.-;

I have to agree. Not everyone has the means to travel to that location to attend the event and actually get their monies worth by attending. So the next option is to spend $85 and not attend but they won't even send you the Gobbie Bag you pay for! How about a $20 fee for people who are not able to attend but want the item? They get money in their pocket, which is obviously what they are after, and the fans get what they want. Let's not forget that $85 is pretty steep for a majority of the underage people that play this game. I can't see them going to mom or dad and saying "Can I have $85 to buy a virtual item that has absolutely no value and will be gone when I quit the game???" LOL

I want to go, but I cannot make it at all. Have had very bad luck with all the event timing out in the east coast and hopefully in the future will be able to make it to at least 1.

It's just a virtual item to me so I am trying to understand... /bow, not in any way trying to invalidate your opinions.
