xboxmagazine's website says this is a 2 month beta... does that mean it goes live shortly after? I would assume that would also mark the launch of the expansion (but perhaps that's just wishful thinking)

AFAIK it gets cut off in March sadly. No date has been given afaik
Allegedly you will be able to transfer over your new characters to the live servers when you purchase the full priced game. I got mine last friday and am happy with it so far.

Bonus' so far:

1.) Playing on my tv
2.) ER did I mention 1!

Gripes so far:

1.) Choppy frame rate in places like Sandoria (sry of its spelt worng)
2.) Too many people (neverthought I'd say that in relation to FFXI tbh!)
3.) refresh rate sucks in some places
4.) Visible (terrible) vanishing point - I'm sure it's worse than the PC version for VP sry
5.) Teh full priced one will be £40 and all I want to do is play my PC account on my 360 Boo!

However its' been ok so far, dumped my last character on there (was an elf) and started a Taru in Windy as a thief (never done that job b4) so I'm enjoying trying a new job out for a change and retreading familiar territory I've seen some fairly high level Choco riders around (the lucky gits) and some pretty cool armor.

Sounds to me that Aht Urgan will probably be released shortly after that event, since it will have to be finished for that event if it is playable. If the pattern of previous releases continues, that suggests that the 360 release will also be around that time, and possibly Aht Urgan will be bundled in.

2) No other FFXI beta has let you keep your characters and move them to existing servers. Instead, they've let you keep your PlayOnline login and friend list, but you've had to start over on a retail server. Odds are the same thing will happen with the 360 beta.

I'm new to ffxi and began playing for the first time on the 360. Having never played on the other servers I can't really comment about the number of people relative to the Hydra/beta server, but from what I've noticed with the beta I would definitely be in agreement with Carter; there seem to be tons of people and there aren't enough monsters either :/ People mill about hoping to find at least one or two kills (in about one to three Vana'diel days).

I would assume that as your level increases - and you can go further away from the city - less people will be around, therefore gaining experience and items will be much easier. However, in the early stages of leveling up, finding semi-easy to equal matches is incredibly difficult. My only experience has been in the Bastok area, so I have no idea if it's like this near San d'Oria or Windurst.

Monsters just aren't respawning fast enough, although last night there seemed to be a bit of improvement. When I first logged on there weren't a lot of people though, but as time wore on the amount of players grew quite exponentially :/

I'm only a level 5 Hume Warrior right now, in and around Bastok. Character name: Atrela. I don't have a USB keyboard unfortunately but I do have a few set macros on the controller and can wave :D

This is largely due to the fact the beta has just been released. Believe me when the PC version was first released it was just as bad. People will weed out eventually. This game is not for everyone. Just give it some time and people will slowly either quit or progress. Plus, once you get to higher levels you'll appreciate more people because partying is vital in this games higher levels.

Im am thinking of getting the full game for my 360. i already have it for PC and im not sure if my parents will let me get it again

But anyways im pretty sure when i move out (5 yrs or so) i will just continue playing it for the PC and MAYBE for the 360.
