In addition, you'll need to secure the Xbox 360 Premium system, the one that comes with the HDD and is $399.

You'll also need to get a USB Keyboard, as the Xbox360 version of the game does not support voice chat.

And just in case anyone's wondering, Sage Sundi mentioned the North American beta in his interview with The Order of the Blue Gartr LS.

-Square Enix and Microsoft have not yet finalized distribution methods for the North American X360 beta.
-By the context of the discussion, Treasures of Aht Urghan content will be present in the X360 beta.
-He said that for North America, the beta will be "more of a promotion than a test," and that it will be huge.
-When asked when the beta would take place, he responded that he could not yet answer that question.

I dunno what SE or Microsoft's plans are, but I did preorder an Xbox 360 and a copy of FFXI (just in case it was available at launch or some beta plan was in the works).

Regardless if there is a beta or not, I plan on getting FFXI for the 360. It was just one of the benefits of getting the system to me. Guess more will be revealed the closer it gets to launch / holiday time.

Maybe a stupid question, but will I be able to play on my PC account on the XBOX360 one? Is it possible with the PS2 version? I live in Europe, we don't have the PS2 version out here so I was thinking of importing.

Since you use the registration codes to access your information, you can input these on different computers and systems. It shouldn't pose any problem at all. I started out playing the pc version at NA retail and when the PS2 version was released I played my character on the PS2 also.

I'm not sure where they sell OXM 360, if at all in the US, but its rumored to be including an FFXI Beta to test on your 360 in Issue #4, Jan. 5, 2006. FYI for the EU FFXI players out there.

Ok I checked into a subscription for the mag for anyone interested. If you start up a subscription the earliest issue you will get is February, so don't bother if your doing it for the FFXI demo. That demo is in the January issue. Also the subscription to the US is quite pricey, $158.00. So try to check importing sites for single issues.

Expensive? How so? Its more economical to purchase the Premium package of Xbox 360. The core package... I'm not even sure why they bothered with it.

so in that case, how would we pay? since silver is free, yet still allowing players to use the POL services, that means that we;d pay the cost of playing FFXI? Ok, but what if we have a Gold account?

Of course, I wouldnt be suprised if we had to pay for a FFXI account in addition to a Gold account, but it would be nice to see some sort of yearly bundle if you intend to pay for both.

Yeah... it would be nice, but the fact is: you're paying for a service from Microsoft and then you're paying for a service from POL. 2 dif companies.
