So when we get the Xbox 360 we get a free month of playonline and xbox live?

You are not charged for PlayOnline. You are charged for the Content ID's you purchase to make a character. If you buy the 360 and FFXI, you will get a 30 day free trial if you start a NEW account. If you have a character and wish to play it on the 360, you will not get a 30 day free trial.

As for X-box Live, there are 2 packages. One is the Silver that is free and included with every 360. Then there is the Gold package and that one is not free but you do get a free 30 day trial with that also.

so in that case, how would we pay? since silver is free, yet still allowing players to use the POL services, that means that we;d pay the cost of playing FFXI? Ok, but what if we have a Gold account?

Of course, I wouldnt be suprised if we had to pay for a FFXI account in addition to a Gold account, but it would be nice to see some sort of yearly bundle if you intend to pay for both.

Anyone understand where I'm coming from?

No its been announced that the free Silver addition will allow access to MMO's. Of course, you'll still have to put in your cc info for SE to charge you but you do not have to pay MS anything. So basically you'll be able to use some of the Live services for free and log onto live and then log into your MMO. That is how I currently understand they are doing it. Silver is 100% free.

When you currently subscribe to Live you pay for a years fee. You buy a card in the store and then put in the required info. They are going the same route again with Gold plus a few other payment options. The Gold account allows you to play ALL the 360 games that support Live, Silver does not.

I don't think they are releasing the Expansion for PS2. All the advertisements have been XBox 360-exclusive. I think Sony is getting a kick in the pants from this.

In other words: If they successfully beta-test The XBox 360 for FFXI, this means better compatibility with PC (obviously) because Microsoft + Windows XP + PC = More Moolah for Square.

In other words, they had better f**king include a bunch of graphical and engine upgrades for the PC when they finish with the 360. Or I'm going to be one pissed and finanically broke bastard.

I also believe that the PS2 will get left in the dust eventually........but not quite yet.

They did say very recently in an interview that they would continue support for the PS2. (Yes, I know don't take stock in the crap because lying seems to be the norm for the industry.) Also I don't think they will abandon the PS format quite so easily. I think if/when the hd comes out for the PS3, that will be the death knell for the PS2. But I have to say, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they threw Sony out entirely. It's all about the $$.

It'll most likely be phased out in the next 3-4 years. Chances are by that time 90% of FFXI's PS2 players will have either a Xbox360 or a Playstation 3.

Exactly I think by doin the FFXI gameon 360 and in Japan first it allows SE to gauge how receptive the Japanese are to change.

They most likely will. Since Sony only counts on their name it seems to sell units of anything. Hopefully they will KO support for the PS2 once the ps3 is released. I know my 1gig of ram and 256mb card and overclocked 3.1 ghz are ready for a workout.

Tanaka himself said he would hope to have FFXI on as many next-gen systems as possible. Since he had already claimed that he would happily bring FFXI to the PS3 once Sony makes a decision on the HDD, would that be a hint of FFXI on Revolution? The controller would make an interesting form of point-and-click control.

Or they can use the GC Controllers on the back...like the DS i dont think anything besides from Nintendo themselves will make any real great use of the stick until people catch up.

you'll be paying 11.95 a month to play ffxi. :p That's the monthly fee to play ffxi itself, not to access playonline.
