If I recall correctly, Break-type powers are already scattered throughout FFXI. I believe the normal Break attacks are covered by Great Axe Weapon Skills. I think there were stat-Break attacks at some point, and those are covered by DRK's Absorb- series of spells.

still, that would be pretty cool.

No, the original Japanese has nothing to do with "Taoism" or its practioners. The original word, madoushi, is being incorrectly broken into two parts: ma and doushi. Ma is about equivalent to "demon," and doushi means follower of "the way" (aka Taoism).

The root word is infact madou which essentially means magic, and the final shi is an indicator of person, thus one who uses magic. A mage if you will.

Tempering my excitement at the new expansion with the fear they stick with the stupid idea of level capping zones ala CoP.

I doubt they will. Each expansion so far has been drastically different from the previous. Zilart's focus was apparently new areas, jobs, summons, etc. CoP is obviously mainly based around missions and was full of areas that people will probably only use for missions/ENMs/etc. My guess is that ToAU will either be similar to Zilart in that perspective, or be something completely different, as Tanaka himself has said.

not Madou.. Mahou = Magic

Mahou tsukai = Magic user

aoi ma doushi = correct in your translation

I don't believe thats the kind of "Break" attacks he meant^^ He probably meant more of what Dynamis-Bastok's Scorpions can do.

It will be beta tested on the 360 at its launch. You will find registration details with your 360. No announcement has been made, to my knowlege, of any other system beta testing. I'm sure after a few weeks they will open it up though so they can stress test.

lol. Maybe capped alliance bcnms? Maybe 1v1 bcnms? I dunno how much different they can get from Zilart and CoP... Level 10 capped missions?

Remind me to stock up on healing potions and crap the week before TAU releases. Prices gonna sky rocket again like they did with the CoP update back in February.

You know...the quest "The Setting Sun"... It involves fighting a monster named Ahtu (an abreviation of AHT Urhgan?) Also the sun sets in the west where The Far East supposedly is. Though, Ahtu's treasure isn't exactly important for anything save 10k gil...Yeah, pretty lame connection.

I wonder how much stuff they've got on back log and have been meaning to put in since the game originally launched...The very first trailer had shots of Altepa and Boyahda; let alone the intro having an area you finally get to access two expansions in...Crazy how much planning this game has had...

doushi is usually used as a disciple, a user.

redmage is red magic disciple.

It's more correct to use doushi, then tsukai because doushi implies they are of a certain, sect, clan, or order, in this case a specific "Class"

Then a combination of chinese and western fantasy roots, where a mage is not a master, magus, or whatever, but a lower, or normal rank of the society, is convient for ff ideals. So rather then mahou tsukai (magic user) mahou doushi(magic disciple) feels more natural.

shorten that, and it's madoushi.

The reason it got auto-translated to magic taoist, is obvious, since doushi is of chinese roots.

Sorry but its been announced already. So it will be a while till we see a retail release. I think at the earliest we'll see the expansion late March/early April. If they want to be a-holes, they will sit on it until October and release during the holiday season.

I just read that the 360 beta will only go through CoP and ToAU will not be available at all until sometime after th 360 beta is finished (early next year). I was bummed too, since its part of the reason I want to beta test on 360...but oh well.
