Servers are having issues for those of us that are on (like myself). Got a partial party going but search functions have been disrupted. ; ; Thus, can't fill in the last two slots.

It only means they fixed something...We have yet to even know what's causing it.

its not DOS, its Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS)

basically, its an attack by bots of some sort, and what they do is, once they find a server, (were talking like thousands of bots) they ping the crap out of it, which basically floods the server, which causes the problems with search, AH, etc...

A DoS attack can be perpetrated in a number of ways. There are four basic types of attack:

consumption or overload of system or network resources, such as bandwidth, disk space, or CPU time
disruption of configuration information, such as routing information
disruption of physical network components
disruption of normal operating-system functionality by exploiting a software vulnerability.
Attempts to "flood" a network with bogus packets, thereby preventing legitimate network traffic, are the most common form of attack, often conducted by disrupting network connectivity with the use of multiple hosts in a distributed denial-of-service attack or DDoS. Such attacks can consume the resources of intervening systems and networks over which the attack is transmitted. Other than incorrectly formed packets or random traffic, two specific sophisticated means of attack include:

a smurf attack, in which ICMP requests are sent to the broadcast address of misconfigured networks, with a faked, or spoofed, source IP Address set to the one of the target
a SYN flood, in which bogus SYN requests to a service (often HTTP) cause a server to be overloaded by spawning half-open connections
The source addresses of this traffic are usually spoofed in order to hide the true origin of the attack. Due to this and the many vectors of attack, there are no comprehensive rules that can be implemented on network hosts in order to protect against denial-of-service attacks, and it is a difficult feat to determine the source of the attack and the identity of the attacker. This is especially true with distributed attacks.

DDOS stand for Distributed Denial of Service.
Turning your computer into a proxy for a hacker to route his traffic through in order to protect his/her identity, and data loss among many other things.

This is a problem that all MMORPGs have run into, however S-E seems to be having a real terrible time of it lately.

There were about 4 or 5 times on Lakshmi yesterday where /search and Auction House search were down. I had a few people in my LS try to mule hop and couldn't get back in game for another hour and half.
