          Re: The Fellowship Quest

I talked it over with a friend of mine and we both went over as much information as we could possibly dig up and translate from multiple sites spread out all across the net.

~ The 'item' that will allow you to call the NPC to your aid will work such as an enchantment. Because after thinking about it... if its just a single item that you can use over and over... what would keep players from having the NPC full attack the monster, the NPC would die, and the player could 'resummon' the NPC. It would be so cheap/easy. So, we both came to the agreement that it will work such as an Enchantment type of thing.

~ My friend and I also concluded that the NPC will most likely be written with special variables written inside the scripting. Now, for all your nonprogrammers who dont know what the heck im talking about... lol ... basically it means that the NPC will act like a normal player but will not have the same restictions as a normal player. To expand on this theory more, we both concluded that IF the NPC has its own level... and starts out at level 1. It would be pretty obvious that the normal restictions of partying would not allow any amount of experience points to be given to a level 1 player in a group where everyone is 73-75. SO.... If the NPC is level based, it will need its own variables (its own set of rules) to allow exp gain from a higher level job; furthermore, I would like to add that the odds of this happening do seem pretty slim. I would like to promote my theory of how this would work though ~ Which would be the NPC is set on a flucuating level basis. This means that the NPC will be based on whatever level your current job is. There is no doubt in my mind that someone will try to exploit this and cause a glitch so that you could change from a level 75 job to a level 10 job... and keep the NPC at level 75. So the conclusion to this long and tiresome paragraph is the NPC will be reset everytime you change jobs and will match your current level and exp count.

~ When it comes to partying with your NPC... I have reason to believe that the NPC will act just like another person in your group. EXAMPLE: If you solo an Even Match (no matter the level)... you get 100 exp. With your NPC helping you to duo and Even Match, your EXP would drop down to 70. Its a basic rule of thumb that BSTs use all the time, if you keep your pet when you make the kill... your exp becomes gimped. HOWEVER, there is a possiblity that they may change it around to allow you the full amount of exp - but its doubtful. Im not making too many assumptions on this.

~ When it comes to customization of your NPC, I feel that (sorry I cant remember your name) that whomever posted that the quest will pend due to your choice of race. If you want a taru, you quest for it in Windurst... and so on. I also feel that since SquareEnix already did say that the NPC will automatically change gear and weapons... I doubt you will be able to equip them with anything, but dont hold me to this. Otherwise... I think this will be the extent of customization. I have no freakin clue how they will work job selection. There is a possibility that the NPC will just be opposite of your current job or duplicate it. Again - its too early to assume anything on this.

~ As for me, Im doing fine! Thanks for asking! CoCo Puffs are great when reading update info. ^^

Thats my little assumption... please do NOT take anything that I have said/written to heart as the details of this patch are not set in stone and everything is opinion based. So incase I dont post on this thread again (j/k ^^) Good Afternoon, Good Evening, and Good Night!

This could be cool if they do it well, but I have a feeling you'll end up needing to buy spells and equipment for your NPC. Either that or they'll make something that dezones back to Jeuno while you're fighting a VT mob

                  Re: The Fellowship Quest

I'm pretty sure you'll have a re-usable item with a timer (like Treat Staff 2) to summon your NPC. What's the point of raising the idiot if you run out of enhancement charges for him. And if the recharge time is too low (I think maybe an hour is a good recharge time), you can just keep sacking your NPC on ITs. An inexhaustable supply of meat shields.

As for the AI...while the Garrison NPCs were in fact...stupid...at least their mages casted magic. Try doing the Escort Missions and it's just like the VG Cats comic posted earlier. They don't cast, they just run into aggro and probably die without your baby sitting.

I seriously hope and pray that it is customizable what job/race/look you can get for them. It'd be nice having a companion to join me on my quests, but even more so if I had a working synergy with that companion.

This is gonna be real useful to THFs. Now we have someone to Trick+WS onto without having to sleep bolt the mob for Sneak+WS(only to have him wake up and turn right before it connects). Hell, if we can control the NPC and tell it to disengage, could even Sleep Bolts, SATA+WS on partner. I can't wait...

a tought just occurred to me...

in ffxii, your partners are controlled by the game unless you 'switch' to them. we all know ffxii has major ffxi influences, battle system wise mostly too

could this mean the AI on the NPCs will actually be good? maybe it's a hint? i mean, maybe they just imported the ffxii character's ai into ffxi because it was working out well or something o_O

i noticed someone saying square's previous AI workarounds were poor, i beg to differ, have you played ANY ff games? you know... enemies have AI too, and we all know how intensive all the FF battles were... and how smart the mobs in ffxi can be.. O_O' dont just go saying the escort and garrison npcs are dumb, because in my opinion, the escort npc is supposed to be weak... why else would it need an escort? doh. and the garrison npcs.. well, i don't complain about them.. i dont think in all my garrisons have i ever had a problem with them

                        Double Post Edited:

                          Re: The Fellowship Quest

It was me who said the AI was lacking... and yes.... I have played and beaten 5-10, including tactics and tactics advanced. I still say the AI is lacking. the FF games have never been about AI, its always been about story. I honestly do not like most turned based games... but the FF games had me keep coming back. I still stand by my words...

And yes, you are correct in that they did say that FFXII would be hugely influenced by FFXI... good thinking.

                            Re: The Fellowship Quest

I seem to be of the assumption that in Future Final Fantasies, FFXI influences will play a huge role in many things. Especially story develpoments. I would love doing missions in an offline FF for multiple nations then having a large tie in on the overall story.

Also FFXI is the only Final Fantasy in which the "main" character actively changes their outfits and gear and you can see a true difference onscreen.

In older past games you'd only see a difference when they switched jobs and went into "AF" mode.

Id love to customize my toons that way.
