Besides that, we're talking about 2 MMOs put out by the same company, with folks on the team who worked on the previous one.

You're argument is further flawed by the fact that XI never had any unrealistic caps like that, only small re-entry barriers for content (some of which could be worked around) and the infamous JP midnight lockouts.

It's far less excusable now than it was back then given all the experience the team has accumulated. It's also been roughly 4 months and we're just getting the first update, when XI was on a regular bi-monthly system in the early days. The team can and should be doing better than this.

If I understood you correctly, you complained about MMORPG coming out sans endgame as a recent trend.

I merely showed it's a long held tradition, at least as far as SE is concerned.

        * * *

Should SE have waited longer before releasing ARR in order to launch with more endgame content?

I've no idea--do you know how to evaluate the long term revenue outlook for ARR released a year later than it did, if it had a year worth of additional contents developed? Would be nice for the players who do play, but would that have made ARR stronger or weaker in the fast paced MMORPG market today?

That's not the trend I as referring to (and that's more of a problem than a deliberate trend)

the trend is the whole scheme of new content obsoleting old content and gear. A big part of what made XI relevant for so long was that the devs were brilliant not to obsolete any of the older stuff. When CoP came out, Sea and Limbus gear was great and offered some great gear for jobs that didn't have good options out of sky (like for PLD, DRG & DRK I forget that set name but it dropped off Omega) as well as new stuff for everyone. Same with ToAU and WotG, they kept adding new things to do with great new gear that was competitive but didn't outright beat older stuff (like the Salvage sets, which were comparable to cursed gear).

THAT is what I dislike most about new MMOs, ARR included. For one thing, it invariably means all the work the devs did on older content went to waste as all it did was buy time between patches for the new content. It also pushes each update to constantly add new stuff, as opposed to focusing on other aspects of the game or making existing content more desirable. I don't care what anyone says, I think that was perhaps the best aspect of XI and something should never have been abandoned.

The people whining about the Myth cap are the ones too lazy/unsocial to make enough friends or get an FC do Coil really. It takes a week at most to get a full Darklight set and this is coming from someone working full time, with various side projects and charity work eating up more time. The only people screwed on Myth gear are BLMs since the Spell Speed build is actually their best gear set for sustained damage.

Mostly because you actually have to communicate. 90% of my time in Fates is just sitting there and just spamming a skill, over and over and over. There's no talking no matter how much I try to make conversation
So you found standing there autoattacking more fun and deep than actually having to do things? It was entirely possible to write a keyboard macro to automate the whole fucking levelling process in XI. FATEs aren't perfect but at least you aren't sitting around for hours AFK while you let a macro play the game for you.

I would also contest that XI had far more communication. Sure XI had communication, 90% of which was hurling abuse at each other for the slightest slip up whille you instead chat to your LS. It sounds like you need to find a better server (FATE groups on my server tend to be chatty and fun), or get a FC, or play with friends.

That is complete utter bullshit and you know it. Speaking of coil, people are pretty pissed about the apparently awful loot system for it (SE did tweak the drops recently so that shows it wasn't unfounded). It'd be nice if they'd start implementing "smart drops" so that there's a much lower chance that an item that's only equipable by classes that aren't present won't drop.

Some people just can't get luck with coil groups, or most people who do coil only want people who already have experience, or full myth gear already.

I've done coil before, ive even been kicked for only having three pieces of myth, when coil is there to get gear. I also keep getting groups that keep getting killed in T1. Some times we done even make it to the split.

So no, it's not just people who don't want friends, or don't want to have social contact and friends who complain about myth cap. It's also the people who have extremely bad luck with getting coil groups, and finding people who are complet Jerks, who don't even want to help newer people. I'm still helping my fc get geared and get their relics so they can do coil, and I don't get stuck with jerks, and incompetent people who won't learn coil.

As for the social aspect, I loved XI because it allowed social contact. I LOVED XI for one some reason... You could talk, and have a full intelligent conversation with your party. In XIV it's fairly hard to talk any more than 4 or 5 words before completely lowering your damage, or losing hate, or the tank dying due to typing.

As for the insults, I never had been insulted in XI, disagreements, but never insults. But that is what made XI more interesting because people would actually talk rather than just say hi, and nothing at all.

I've actually gotten so bored in dungeons and Fates I start to fall asleep in them because no one talks.

Sorry but as someone who is in an FC that taking it upon themselves to improve the community for EU players on Balmung, and give them a good community to do endgame and roleplay, as well as helping people outside the FC get geared (as long as we're not already doing something, someone will help), it really does to me sound like you just turn up and expect things to happen. Trust me I know, I used to be the same, ask Yyg, Cid, Jarre and Hayde. I think I drove them all mad with my "There's nobody to play with!" rants on Skype. We already have two Allied Free Companies now (Eorzean Union and The Traveller's Guild) and an inter-FC Linkshell from this work and hopefully we should get more people joining in soon.

Trust me when I say all removing the cap will do is encourage the elitist "Stop having fun" guys. Plus you don't *need* Myth for Coil (Darklight is fine, Relic +1 for DD and Healers is preferable but not required) Square Enix is adding another gear tier between Darklight and Myth/Allagan to help with the gear cap and they are increasing the Myth cap a little.

Okay sorry about that, none of that was meant as a personal attack. It's just I come to these forums to get away from the whining which is a pet peeve of mine. I honestly wish all the people that want welfare epics to just fuck off back to WoW where they belong (and yes I say this as a long time WoW fanboy, the game is just way too dumbed down for these people now).

Anyway, helping your FC get geared is exactly what you should be doing. The elitists will run off on their own, blitz through everything and go to the next new shiny MMO. Way too many MMOs launch without a real endgame, and FFXIV ARR has a LOT to do for an MMO that only came out a few months ago. Plus there is a huge patch with even more endgame stuff coming out next week. (The whining about the delays of this patch is another pet peeve of mine but that is for another time I think).

I've actually not had any of those chat problems in FFXIV. I never have to move my hands to type on FFXIV, and the global cooldown is long enough to type in quick commands to party members if they aren't using VOIP. Idiots on your VoIP server are rare since you can you know, IP ban them and change passwords.

I don't know how it's bullshit. People play a multiplayer game solo, refusing to make in game friends and join a group of likeminded players, then whine that they don't get the pixels that require groups to get. If they made it too easy to get Myth then there would be no real point in doing coil since Allagan and Myth Gear are more sidegrades to each other. Why get Allagan if you already have full Myth?

Smart loot drop systems don't work. SWTOR is your best example. You can have a party with a Juggernaut, 2 Sorcs and an Assassin and nothing but Warrior Gear will drop leaving the other three annoyed at having to work for nothing.

And all they need to do is bring in a token system. Instead of gear a token to buy say a Ring or Hat drops and you exchange it for the relevant hat with an NPC. Everyone gets something they want and we don't get nothing but DRG or Tank gear like my Coil group seems to only ever find.

They aren't. Allagan in a number of cases is better, and will be even stronger after the patch as they're being bumped up to iLv 95 so bam, myth gear is already outdated as will be +1 Relics. That didn't take long now did it?

And I have a decent FC that runs coil and other stuff. The only reason I'm not doing coil right now is because I want to do CT first like we're all supposed to (remember that was the devs' original intent and the release of CT got pushed back because it was too hard and needed re-balancing)

The cap is still complete utter bull. The weekly lockouts on Coil are rather shitty too, quite frankly. Arugably even more so since they're random drops and not items you can simply purchase if you've farmed enough. At least with Relic armor in Dynamis it was only a 3-day thing and you could get time extensions while inside the event to farm more. I'm not asking for anything to be handed to me, I'm asking that SE stop arbitrarily putting in cheap cockblocks to stop myself and others from progressing as much as we'd like to. We double checked with Yoshi-P and what he mentioned during the stream is correct. Only Allagan weapons will have their item levels increased to 95. Sorry about the confusion!

^ good to know. I still think myth cap is nonsense though and you're not convincing me otherwise, not in a game where you can play all classes on 1 character. Imagine the rage if back in XI if they pulled something similar with AF/Relic/Empyrean gear?

Granted, XI now has 22 jobs in it vs XIV's 9 (2 shared by 1 class) but it would be just as aggravating.

I completely agree. I looked up the Allegan gear, because it was myth that was getting a boost, but I didn't have time to post it.

I think we should get an upgrade for our relic weapons. But, make it so that there's some sort of hard fight designed for the job, as well as visit the three hardest places to get to, no mount while grabbing something there.

Just so that relic+1 can be upgraded and still wanted.

Unless they go back on their words, they already said they have plans to upgrade relic weapons; with 2.1 the only weapons that will truly 'dominate' relic's would be the 95 allagan weapons; the extreme primal's still only drop ilevel 90 gear and CT only has ilvl 80. If I'm going to throw my bets on anything, I'm thinking hard/extreme Leviathan in 2.2 will be the means of upgrading our current relic weapons.

If they were boosting Allagan then they would have had to really overhaul the stats since a lot of classes would have been screwed over by that.
