Fates, there so damned boring. I can't take my self to level another job, as Fates are just tab and spam an instant skill, literally. I can't wait for 2.1 to come out. I just hope questing becomes a viable leveling

And it still manages to be more fun than FFXI's levelling which can be broken down as:

      Find Camp.

      Tank:
      • Auto Attack until 100TP. Use Weapon Skill. Switch to NIN.

      DDs:
      • Auto Attack until 100TP. Use Weapon Skill. Switch to WAR.

      Healer:
      • Cast Haste.
      • Get bitched at for not coming SCH.

Rinse and repeat for 3-6 hours until you gain a single level.

I actually found XIs way so much more fun.

Mostly because you actually have to communicate. 90% of my time in Fates is just sitting there and just spamming a skill, over and over and over. There's no talking no matter how much I try to make conversation

Yeah I actually enjoyed XI's and even 1.0's levelling more.

You're conflating the rate with the format - the problem in XI was more that it just took FOREVER both to build a party and then get enough EXP through killing crap (though I will concede merit parties were just as mindnumbing as fate spam) but at least in traditional hunting parties you learned to play your class and had to actively participate at all times.

FATE you can pretty much poke 1 mob and sit back and wait for the gold in most of them.

My current peeve is the arbitrary (and IMO damaging) mythic cap. It's bad enough that the reformed armory system sucks and in no way reflects what Tanaka and Komoto had originally intended, resulting in a bastardized job system. But the game actively punishes players for taking part in what's supposed to be a central attraction of the game - playing all classes on a single character. Caps make sense in WoW because you can only play the one class per character for that character's entire career, so there needs to be something in place to slow down progress a bit. Getting enough tomes and all the gear (redoing the relic quests for separate jobs) etc. is already tedious (and boring quite frankly) as all Hell as it stands without some stupid arbitrary cap each week.

Yea, I do agree with the myth cap. They need to raise it by atleast 200. I did the math one day. Excluding the body piece, and legs, getting all myth gear, if played every week to cap takes 12 full weeks. I feel that it just takes too long. 3 months for gear 6 total for everything on one job is just too much.

It takes just short of TWO YEARS to get a full set of the armor (not counting the accessories or belts etc.) for each of the 9 jobs.

'nuff said, that's bullshit - especially since this isn't XI where they'll be releasing largely side grades. There's going to be stuff coming out that will beat that gear at some point, therefor the only real reason they have for cockblocking is to stall for time to add more content and it's sad.

It's sad? That's how MMOs work. Welcome to Everquest 1999. I already mentioned this in a post in another thread, and I already answered this during 1.0, but seems like people "just don't get it" (tm). You try running an operation like this with your own money and see how long you can stay in business. F2P games tend to be bankrolled by multi-national conglomerates and big financiers who get their money back from the DLCs quick and easy. Since most players didn't want to see a game like FFXIV go that route, then you'll have to just deal with it.

And what happens when they raise the level cap and make all this stuff obsolete?

If FF11 is any guide, once higher levels and better gears are released, SE will make changes so that the older gear become easier to obtain (directly or indirectly). I'd also guess that many old gear which took significant effort to obtained will have an upgrade path--maybe even necessary to obtaining new gear.

leaving no trace in the water.

I actually think this is unnecessary, especially when ceiling is lifted. The last thing you want is for players to hang on to old gear and not bother to try and obtain newer ones and instead demand an upgrade path which would be ridiculously tedious and then give more things for people to complain about. Plus, this would hurt crafters, which is the last thing the crafting community would like to see.

May be necessary, may not be, but I think it'll likely happen.

SE already did a lot for armor/accessory crafters in FFXIV by making gear unsellable once used. (Those crafters' biggest competitors were their past customers.) Maybe cursed gear type of crafting is how SE should accommodate high level crafters: make it so that players would need items only obtainable from crafting to upgrade certain old gear or complete some new gear.

Exactly. Love how they abandoned most of the old tennets of MMOs (mostly the good ones) and yet they held onto this particular golden turd. There's the expansion coming next year, plus eventually Bahamut gear and whatever else they've got planned. The only reason I'm not ranting about this on the lodestone (though I have previously a number of times as have many others) is 'cause of that ridiculous ban I got (I get that they don't want flamewars and other nonsense to break out but I hardly think calling one guy an "asshat" one time for honestly being a complete douche bag merits a ban. Racial/Ethnic slurs, excessive profanity, clearly intentional harassment sure - but a bit of public shaming? Good old SE, never wanting to tolerate dissent.)

I'm confused ... so are you saying that you're angry because the Bahamut gear is coming out and yet you don't want to grind for the gear they have for this expansion (in otherwords, you want "welfare gear") or that you're okay with it, because every expansion brings new goodies and shinies and a new treadmill, and that is EXACTLY LIKE EVERY OTHER FUCKING MMO OUT THERE.

I'm pretty sure Dak wasn't agreeing with your sentiments at all as he was merely being sarcastic about your post.

No I'm saying it's bullshit that they put this arbitrary cap on myth tomes because that gear is going to obsolete soon enough anyways and the only real reason for the cockblocking is because they know they're short on endgame content (which is a symptom of the newer trend of MMOs and one I don't care for.)

Again, if you look at XI pre-Abyssea there was no shortage of end game content. The level cap increase pretty much threw out 7+ years of content in a single patch, which has been the norm for most MMOs and I'd prefer it wasn't but it's not likely to change.

Stop. You're comparing apples to oranges.

If you compare MMORPGs at release, then you should note that FFXI was first released (in Japan) without Zilart expansion. No Lv.75. No Sky. No Dynamis. (IIRC.)

I would argue AAR at release had more 'endgame' content than FFXI at release--as it should have, since it's version 2 of an (once) existing MMORPG.
