Nope, Just that they have had 2 maintenance alredy this week, and an emergency, which have disallowed me to enjoy the game (those were during my time) I play after 9pm, so I'm SOL.
And, also, I keep seeing a lot of players with lag issues. WHY? I'm here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with 50ms latency, almost never any lag, and yet you got players who live within 500 miles of the data center in Quebec shedding massive tears. I can see EU players getting bad latency and lag spikes (All the more reason for SE to move the GOD DAMN EU PORTION OF THEIR DATACENTER TO LONDON OR PARIS) but US players complaining about that makes me highly suspect that their ISP, like Cumfast, are the culprits here. And no one, I mean NO ONE, wants to contact their ISPs for help. I wonder why...
I get ridiculous lag as well from time to time and I live in fucking Ottawa, practically next door to Montreal.
And aside from the bad job design (really dislike what they've done overall, having gotten higher up on most classes) right now the most disheartening thing of all is that it will take at the current rate of 300 tomes/week just shy of TWO YEARS to get a full set of AF 1.5 for all 9 jobs. That's just completely retarded, especially given that future content will have gear that eventually out classes it. It's a blatant, shitty stall tactic.
Don't know, but keep in mind people mix up all kinds of 'lag' together. Most often, they just mean the game not performing well, so it's 'lagging'.
I think about 'lag' in three ways:
Network latency:
How long does it take does the packet travel from user's machine to the server?
How long does it take the other way?
"Server latency": time it takes from receiving a request from to finish executing it.
"Client latency": time it takes from receiving info from server to complete acting on the info.
So, let's say let's say there are 50 other players near a player's character, all doing stuff. Server dutifully sends all that info to someone's ready-to-retire-yesterday computer, and the data get there fast. BUT, it takes the tired, old computer 10 seconds to finish digesting all that info and draw the screen.
That gives you 0.1 "frame per second" display rate, at best. That player would have what I call a "client latency" problem, but what's his complain?
"It's laggy."
Now, let's say a zone server is overloaded--too many people at location _____. The server is having a hard time keeping up, and is having trouble sending out "Here are the 50 people near you" message to the (implied) client request to update "Hey, what's around my character?"
Another user, with his $5000 desktop gaming monster, is displaying the game at a crisp 100+ frame per second. But, the sever is only sending updates about the stuff around him every 5 seconds. His complaint? Well, of course it would be:
"It's laggy."
In both cases, there were no problem caused by network latency--both were issues with computational load. But to the end user, it's all 'lag'.

Most of the people that say they are having lag are playing on machines that put out terrible FPS, or for some reason are playing at 30FPS.
My rig is fairly old and crappy, but it handles the game just fine even during crazy shit like Odin and Behemoth, so I know it's not my CPU. Plus there's been a lot of raging on the official forums (including a massive thread that's gotten a few dev replies now I believe) talking about how god awful the server lag is. For whatever reason the servers just seem to periodically lag to no end, regardless of how good your connection or CPU is.
My lack of logging in is due to the fact that we don't even have enough people to complete (or even do) Bahamut's Coil. I'm at the point where I would only run dungeons for alt jobs or to cap my weekly cap. I've been pretty casual with this game and after 9 weeks since launch/early access...I mean, I have my 1 50 (recently got a second from duoing with an FC mate), have my Darklight gear, have 1 piece of Cleric's Robes and my +1 relic staff. I know a lot of people tend to say "you shouldn't have rushed!" I agree to an extent, but if I was any more casual with this game, I would purposefully not be logging on.
My free-time with FFXIV has entirely consisted of extra hours after my contract work and after dealing with daily, every day tasks--it's not like I'm purposefully putting off work or ignoring friends/family. I'd wager if I did that, I'd have multiple 50's and cleared Turn 5 with the rest of the hardcore FC's the moment it was nerfed after BG's victory.
I don't think the game is necessary lolbad or dull--I think it stems from the problem of having a vertical progression coupled with a relatively quick leveling system. While we can argue with FFXI's flaws and the fact it did not reach the rest of the world until its first expansion, we never really felt a lack of content with that game (until the recent changes to the game + recent expansion) due to its slower pace; the slow leveling system and the low drop rates of NM/HNM pieces really pushed players to keep logging on day after day. I'm not going to say FFXI didn't have more content compared to FFXIV currently, that's not my point--my point is FFXIV has a lot of content, but you'll never go back to them outside of helping someone or gearing an alt.
For example--with Firewind's delimma, Titan. There's absolutely no reason you'd ever go back to Titan after obtaining your key item for your relic weapon unless you were helping your FC, a friend, or working on your second relic. Unless you were doing this encounter with people you know, it's not a sure-fire (or even 50/50, arguably) win and the headache associated with a DF/random group is not worth the risk to farm for random ilevel 70 weapons for your alt jobs when you consider that Garuda weapons and NQ relic weapon are far less of a hassle.
Again, I'm not arguing that FFXI is superior, or that FFXIV is superior--that's entirely subjective to the individual. I'm merely observing at why my playtime with FFXIV has reduced drastically and why some of my friends/fc members have stopped logging on. The argument of "rushing" is becoming less and less of a reasonable excuse. At the end of the day--unless you were the type that stayed up 24/7 during the first week bum-rushing the 50, what constitutes as too much? If you had 2-4 hours to play every night, or even 5 nights a week...is that too much?
Comparing to recent MMO's I've played over the years, I'd safely say FFXIV is no harder to level than SWTOR, Rift, or WoW's current expansion in terms of effort--and I certainly wouldn't say it takes any longer. Between the storyline quests, side-quests, and random FATE's here and there...I was easily gaining several levels every day up until my 30's or 40's...at that point I was still at least gaining a minimal of 1-3 levels for each night I played.

The servers themselves are fine. The netcode however isn't the best optimised out there due to it not really requesting acknowledgements often enough.
Refusing to upgrade hardware does magnify problems a lot as any sort of lag is compounded by a terrible framerate. It is even moreso if you are regularly playing at a framerate lower than what the game and server are optimised for. If the sevrer is optimised for people playing at 60FPS, then at 30, you will see lot of "lag"
Looking at your rage about The Last of Us multiplayer, I'm also inclined to think that your connection may also be an issue. I've never had any sort of the things you're reporting there and I'm on a shitty 8mb connection
I'm not trying to be a dick here, and sorry if my post sounds like that, but saying "it handles the game just fine" without considering the huge snowballing effect that can be caused by a low framerate in online games does make it sound a bit like you haven't done the research
Seriously my old rig ran the game fine on standard at 30FPS, 35-40 if I take off the limiter. The new rig maxes out the game at 90 in FATES if I take off the limiter, and can easily push 120 in certain areas, and the difference is immense, especially on Titan where it now feels like the entire fight is in slow motion.
