Re: What's your pet-peeve in FFXIV: ARR?

Brayflox's bullshit... That fucking dragon at the end is a bitch... Aienar or something... In order to get in the run i had to switch PLD which I hadn;t really played for a year or so... I learned how to tank with the new ARR actions, but main that dragon at the end is a bitch! We tried 3 times, the second time i was tanking it for 10 minutes before we finally wiped... I think 10 mins is a long time to stay up, I want to say it was on our DPS, but man... tough...

Avoid its AoE breath attacks and pull it out of the poison spit it leaves behind. I've yet to fail that particular dungeon.

Re: What's your pet-peeve in FFXIV: ARR?

The hardest part about that dragon is that most duty-finder tanks tend to leave the dragon's left toe in the puddle or something, which causes the stupid thing to hover @40% for eternity. Blayfox is the first instance where difficulty ramps up; it arguably gets progressive worse for random groups from that point out. I'm not necessarily saying encounters are hard from that point out, but it's much less forgiving and people who tend to not give their 100% (or even 75% for that matter) to playing their class/job gets a rude wake-up call. The worst part is, they still don't care even after that fact

Capping mythology tomes weekly has been somewhat of a pain, as only 5 or so people in my FC (maybe we're up to 6 now...) have hit 50, and random groups is a gamble. I still get many fresh 50 tanks with level 20-30 earrings and rings. I'm not asking them to have darklight equipment, that would be kind of silly for an Ampador Keep run--just asking them to drop a few gil and buy some crafted accessories from the market board. You'd be surprised what a few upgrades would make.

Capping Mythology is a pain in the arse on Mondays. You sit around for 60+ mins in an FC premade because there's not enough instances.

Really just beyond sick at this point of the RMT.

Between the warp hacking and the shout/tell spamming, SE needs to step up their game and get on this shit ASAP.

EDIT: Also getting royally pissed at the RNG in general, particularly when gathering. I f'ing hate hitting the +30% HQ skill for a total of 50% chance and not getting a single HQ item. Stupid reduced gathering attempts -_-

Speaking of which, wtf happened to the + yield skill? It's still there, but I've yet to see a single resource node that grants additional yields save for odd lv 20~30 ones that only give shards. And there's 1 or 2 gathering skills that are literally unusable because of the reduced # of attempts on non-leve nodes.

Personally, I thought Qarn is when the difficulty ramped up. And I spent only 100k for all my upgrades when I hit 50, and I bought a few high quality items.

I think as a healer (WHM) it was quicker for me to notice the difficulty ramp as for the first time with Blayfox, poorly-geared tanks who didn't properly use their abilities would take massive spike damage. The first bosses were just hell to heal through if the team lacked proper communication and the final boss (dragon) was quite the mp-efficiency test.

I've been making (and HQ'ing) all my gear so far. Hell, if anything I'm making gil rather than spending it while leveling.

Branflax is the stupid check for tanks. Qarn was a wipe fest of epic proportions, but mostly due to RNG (e.g., Final Sting) We just went through Cutter's Cry and that place was fun but mostly a snore (final boss made it worth going through it, though)

Get lagg or large latency as a tank in Brayflax and it makes it twice as hard, I have run away form red zone and been half way accross the dungeon and still been hit by its poison attack.

Re: What's your pet-peeve in FFXIV: ARR?

Number One Rule of FFXIV AoE Dodging: If you were in the AoE when the cast bar filled, you will be hit no matter how far away you are. On some fights, Titan Hard Mode, Ultima Weapon and Demon Wall especially, it's always better to be moving during Ground Target Phases than it is to be trying to damage the boss then wiping the party because you didn't move in time.

There's a bunch of sync issues too. If you cast something on the way out so the server will confirm your position so you can end up with the server thinking you stopped running because you didn't stop spamming abilities while moving. Found that one out the hard way on Titan HM by spamming Scathe while running out Bomb Radius. Easiest way to avoid that though is to stop all ability spamming and just move it.

That said my favourite personal AoE dodging fail was in Garuda Hard More where I ran into the centre too early for the Eye of the Storm phase, and got thrown into Garuda's cleave, and one shot because the Cyclones take off a little over 2k and Garuda cleaves for about 2k. My FC had a good laugh at me about that over Mumble.

There's a message during the fight that says:

"Dude, I know you like staring at that Lalafell's ass cheeks, but move the lizard out of his green puke so your DPS don't call you a moron."

^ I'm being facetious, but really, when the message prompts you and you're suggested to move, then you move. I know a lot of players from WoW complained about no add-ons, but the game provides textual help that is very reminiscent of Deadly Boss Mods, which tells you exactly what to do sans the bells and whistles. In the final boss encounter of Cutter's Cry, it's the same thing, "blue eyes flash" so you move away and "violet eyes flash" so you move in. Execution, on the other hand, is the responsibility of the player, not the game.

                            Tips to improve dungeon experiences:

-Use a testing tool, like Pingtest.net, to determine your latency. If it's poor, contact your ISP to work with them in reducing it if at all possible.

-A lot of players have had success with using VPN tools, so you may want to check it out.

-Make it a habit to avoid red zones on normal mobs while working in FATEs, leves and quests. Muscle memory is the best way to eliminate "player latency".

-As a tank, rather than engage a boss directly, circle around when entering the lair. Most bosses are not leashed as long as you move them within the lair. Always keep spacing in mind and make sure you do not "trap" your dps/healer in some messed up manner that they have no chance of fleeing to safety. Most importantly, awareness, awareness, awareness, will make you a better player.

Scratch what I just said, I helped out a friend and we didn't have a tank for that level range. Needless to say we decided to use the Duty Finder.

I have no idea how the tank was taking so much damage, but holy crap something went wrong in there.
