FATEs make people do stupid things. Paladins run around spamming flash; they don't tank. Black mages stand in one spot and spam Blizzard 2; sometimes they just drop dead because nobody heals them. White mages cast all their DoT spells on every single thing that spawns; they don't have time to heal. Every job is busy not doing their roles, it's ridiculous.

And that's why I don't like it, it's just a mindless spam fest with no real checks against skilll or gear save for the Tanks when it comes to the harder NM ones. Otherwise it's a free ride to 50 for all the scrubs.

EDIT: The old hunting parties wouldn't be so horrible if the EXP was up there. I'm not calling for a return to pre-ToAU XI's brutality so much as I miss the sense of unity it brought and how much it forced people to really know what they were doing with regards to class roles, skillchains etc.

And Dungeon EXP isn't nearly on par with FATE. Yes you get more per kill but by the time you actually finish a dungeon, even if you killl every single enemy you could have done several FATE in that time which would eclipse the EXP gains. And because of how crappy the chests are in dungeons are (not to mention however much time you wasted in the DF) it just doesn't stack up.

The easiest way to skill check is to bring back the level cap quests. From Lv30 onwards, there should be a requirement that you need to pass a specific dungeon to continue levelling that class.

And then you get the people that will whine.

"Its too hard. It's not needed." And so on.

And then, you will have those that will say...

"Level 30 is max? This is stupid."
I've seen the questions about chocobos and mounts. The game even guides you to getting it.

Which is exactly what people say about Darkhold/Aurum Vale and Titan... Make up your mind please.

I don't mean any of this post as a personal attack and I apologise in advance if it sounds like this, but this does have to be said:

Both are required for endgame. Darkhold and/or AV are required to unlock AK, a dungeon that contains iLv60 gear. Titan is what you need to kill to unlock Bahamut's Coil, the main endgame raid which drops iLv90 gear.

All of those instances are easily doable if you can be bothered to join a Free company or form one yourself and get involved in the community and make friends. The vast majority of the whiners don't do that. The Level Cap skill gates would be the exact same thing, just earlier on in the game. And guess what? They would be easy to do with friends too.

The fact is is that a lot of the horrible players in the game simply don't get out there into the community, don't make friends, don't join guilds, and therefore don't get a pool of players they regularly play with. It's a vicious circle caused by selfishness and laziness. Can't find an LS/FC? make your own with ingame friends. You wouldn't believe how huge my friends list is and how fast I get help with forming groups just by getting out there, and being nice, polite and helpful.

I need to point this out: my queue times as DD (BLM) are instant. People need to spend less time bitching about 30+ min queues and more time actually treating people well enough to make them want to play with you, and queue in the DF with you.

It used to be better during 1.0 where you were forced to group up (you could tag along on the outside but get barely any exp at all) to do the FATE-like events (called Behests) I agree Duty Finder should be one option, but not the sole option, but as for soloing the dungeons, they can't allow that, as it already is difficult to setup runs without soloers further bogging down the system (I queue up as a tank and still wait 15-20 min for an open dungeon slot to pop up)

                  Okay I'll bite.

It's more like I'm sick of the idiots that play a multiplayer game like it's a single player game, refuse to lay the groundwork to get a group of players you play with regularly, and bitch about it. I know exactly how dumb it is because I used to be like that. Guess what happened as soon as I stopped doing that and started being more sociable and helpful? I got a huge number of people willing to group with with me again.

Some of us have lives outside the game. I can run AK once per evening if I've got nothing else going on. I have a little bit more free time on the weekends, but it's still not enough time to cultivate any meaningful relationships with other people playing FFXIV. Yet, I still enjoy the social aspect of playing with other people.

And yea, I agree that if you subject yourself to the mercy of people who are only recruiting over-geared players, you're going to have a bad time.

What are you talking about a 15 minute wait as tank? Please, it's almost instant. And at worst, it's only a 5 minute wait.

My main is a paladin, and as I was leveling, dungeons would pop almost instantly, no wait at all.

The only times I waited more than a minute was for the 8 mans, and the most was 5.minutes. The only other times that I wait for more than a minute are the primals. And those still pop in under 5 minutes. Titan though, that's another story.

Probably your server group and/or your time zone. If the DF server is full, it doesn't matter if you're a tank or not, you don't get in unless a slot opens up. I don't know if you understand how the system is currently setup, but you should check out the official forums where people have sat in DF queue for hours, I think someone once sat in queue for over 6 hours.

^ yet more reasons to have included at least a few non-instanced (or at least non DF) events, like BCNMs, Assault etc. back in XI.

Speaking of which, goddamn do I ever miss Assault.

Wasn't BCNM implemented so that only one group can be in the BCNM at a time? How is that supposed to help the congestion? And, if multiple groups can be all in their own BCNMs, they are (by definition) in BCNM instances...

Assaults were instances, IIRC, in that multiple groups run in the same zone and each group has own copy of the zone. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

So, you are asking for more instance servers, as far as I can tell.

Whether these instances should be reachable through the Duty Finder system or not? Well, would you want instances of new contents NOT reachable by DF?

                                yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
