The level of elitism in this game is pretty staggering for how long it's been out...
I might be elitist; I'm not sure. At the beginning of every Amdapor Keep run I examine everybody wearing AF. You can usually tell who's a fresh fifty, but I don't feel like that excuses people from purchasing some of the iLevel 55-60 gear to replace some of the iLevel 50 AF. It's just a quick buy, it doesn't take that long and money isn't difficult to come by.
I'll always give the group a chance to see how they do, regardless of their equipment. I'm not adverse to explaining the dungeon to newcomers. I'd say 98% of the times I leave the dungeon first are due to tanks who don't pick up adds. The other 2% are due to groups that don't output enough damage or group members that fail to learn boss fight mechanics.
That's kinda dickish. I mean there are dungeon drops from AK. Personally I see no reason to waste any gil on iLv55 gear, especially as I personally have every craft @ 50. I'm going straight for DL and then AF1.5, not even going to touch the double-star stuff. Crystal Tower is coming soon which will probably nullify most of that crap so may as well just make rosegold ingots and sell for profit.

How do you get AK's dungeon drops if you can't kill the bosses? Plus, there's no guarantee you'll get the drops you want. I still haven't seen the Demagogue hands or neck pieces. In my opinion, get the best gear you can before you walk in so at the very least you can guarantee you'll walk out.

How much better really is the gear you can buy in comparison with AF? I'm thinking negligible...
Uh, AF is actually pretty trashy. It's iLv50, compared to Dark Light which is 70, the Double-Star crafts (which are also 70 but can be melded and HQ'd) and especially Allagan or AF 1.5 which is iLv90.
I'm gonna gear myself up in Darklight fairly soon with the few tomestones I've earned thus far on my way to endgame, I'm just saying you should't be terribly harsh on people just starting endgame. I wouldn't tolerate AF either past Ifrit Hard, but for the 1st few events that open up immediately after beating the story? Yeah why not?

I said compare AF with what can be bought, I was meaning bought with gil. The gear that is 70 that can be bought with gil is about a mil. I dont think anyone will be dropping a mil just to get them buy until they can get darklight. That's my point.

Don't get me wrong, i am going to be getting darklight, as im sure everyone else is too, as soon as possible. BUt that means doing ALOT of AK runs in full AF until you cna accumulate enough points...
Finally saw my lance drop after 52 runs. I lost it to a dragoon who died and went afk half way through the fight. He also happened to have mostly AF, white-grade accessories, and the Ifrit Lance.
What would be better to have over AF that you can buy with gil? All you guys are poo-poo'ing AF, but until you get enough points for DL, there's really nothing better... All of this talk about elitism, and it IS very prevalent here...

You can't walk into Amdapor Keep in your artifact armor and expect to make a meaningful contribution. You're expected to start in the Wanderer's Palace, which provides iLevel 55 gear. Or, as I said, you can buy it. Right now, I can carry a second DPS that's under-geared, but things run so much more smoothly if they're properly prepared.
ilevel 55 gear is that much better than AF? noticeably?? i find that hard to believe. and what gear are you talking about buying? The gear that is ~lvl 70 and costs a mil?
Dak is spreading bullshit. Ak is perfectly doable with AF gear and anyone that tells you the opposite is an elitist talking out of their arse. You might time out, and you won't breeze through it like people in full Darklight but it is perfectly doable.
Just because someone is using a fresh 50 also doesn't mean that they suck.
Sorry but Dak has never done any sort of endgame progression in an MMO, his posts tell me that much from the start. If people needed AK gear to clear AK then people never would have cleared AK in the first place.
People need to seriously stop spreading this "Must have full Darklight to run anything" bullshit. It's just making endgame toxic.
Nevermind, i'm thinking this is not a talk you want to have, lol... my point is that there is a marginal increase in stats from going from AF to ilvl55, and showing up in AF should not keep you out of AK parties...
