Gun for the Darklight Cowl first. It's a pain to farm for but it will be a huge upgrade and the Demagogue Hat goes fine with the Relic Body until you can farm a Relic Hat.

ALC & BSM to 50, and got my AF Tools for them as well ^_^ (and an HQ Militia File for my BSM!)

Going to try and get all my crafts & gathering to 50 by Thursday @ the latest. Can probably have it by Tomorrow night. Getting all my AF+1 though might take some doing.

I'm not entirely sure I want to commit to Smn for my end-game career. I'd like to be relevant, but Smn doesn't fit into the specialized paradigm that's always so popular with end-game groups. I can do a lot of things, but I don't think I do any one thing better than another job. I can heal and cast an instant Raise in a pinch. I can instantly summon Titan-egi to off-tank some adds. I can use Ifrit-egi or Titan-egi in a stun rotation. And of course I can lay down crazy amounts of DoT. But I don't deal more damage better than a Dragoon/Monk, or heal better than a White Mage/Scholar, or tank better than a Paladin/Warrior. Maybe I should be one of them?

The main advantage of the SMN is that you are basically as mobile as the BRD. The vast majority of your damage is from DoTs and the pet which gives you a huge advantage in fights like Titan HM and Demon Wall where movement is #1 Priority.

          - - - Updated - - -

I'll also add that SMNs actually pull ahead of BLMs in sustained fights, that DoT damage really adds up over time and it is all non-elemental so SMN rarely has to worry about resistances like the BLM does.

You're utility and while that might not seem like a glorious role, think about how you can plug in holes in ANY group composition, provided you have an open-minded leader and a supportive team. I'd definitley not mind having a SMN on board on any team I'm with. My friend, a Scholar, definitely has been a brilliant main healer, and I would NEVER want to replace him with any healing "specialist". I don't know the number of times his fairy has healed me in a pinch to bolster a sliver of HP in order to continue the fight and instant Raise is more than an asset in a heated fight where every measure of DPS is critical. I have nothing but good stuff to say about SMN/SCH, provided they are played by a decent player, and that we use novel methods to go around obstacles that would be better handled by more "traditional" or specialized combat classes/jobs.

I got my first green weapon dungeon drop ever for a current main class/job ... I know that's pretty sad. But I'm still happy about it.

Yep, I deal a tonne of combined damage on my SMN. Ifrit alone doesn't do a whole hell of a lot, but when you factor in all the DoT it's nice. And like you said, for fights where movement is key - Brayflox, Temple of Qarn, Titan, Ifrit etc - SMN is really great.

Strangely enough, Egi doesn't seem to be affected much by certain AoE. For example, when I did Titan (NM) his line-AoE (forget name sorry) would often do no damage at all to my Ifrit.

Pets take less damage from AoE in general. Otherwise keeping them up would simply not be plausible in say Titan or Amdpoor Keep.

yeah but I'm talking about seemingly no damage at all, not just reduced.

Probably a bug ... all Egis take damage from what I've seen so far. Just not the full damage that players do or otherwise it wouldn't be worth having a pet out. In all the Stone Vigil runs so far, every single Egi has taken damage from AOE, some of them have completely been wiped (Aervyks - sp? - when they overlap and have 3 orange circles right on top of each other is a prime example of what will happen to those poor things)

I got all my DoH to 25. I am now working on catching up my DoL and getting resources for going to 30 on DoH.

FC static now has the gear to do a Garuda run with a single PLD and single WHM, all the rest as DPS.

Also managed to hit a sub 30 Mins run for Amdpoor Keep as a PLD, BLMx2, SCH premade. Garuda is still more efficient if you have 8 people, especially given how long instance reservations take for AK (plus Garuda is doable with a single tank and healer), but a fast AK run is always satisfying, especially when people keep screaming that BLM is useless for it.

As it turns out, you don't need Relic gear at all for speedruns. The elitists that should that you need Relic Gear for AK are starting to look pretty special right about now.

I would love to do AK in 30 minutes, but I have to do a lot of hand-holding with the players that are new.

It wouldn't matter now, anyway, cause of the queues for getting into those end-game dungeons. So the "speed" pretty much is non-existent as you still gotta wait half an hour to two hours (peak time) to get into one anyway.

Yeah it's why my FC just bands together ans farms Garuda until we're sick of it. Given that you only need one tank and 1-2 healers rotating out people that need breaks isn't difficult.
