  • FF XIV ARR: CE Questions

What the hell is this bullshit? I did a lookup for the prices for both the PC and the PS3. I found some open world scam that SE or some retailers are trying to fucking pull over my eyes.

Ok maybe one of you PC guys/gals can answer this for me.

Why is it that the PS3 (which is obviously inferior) to the PC in terms of performance due to limitations has a higher price for the CE edition which is running at 80.00 minus tax. But yet the PC version of the same exact game of the same exact edition is only 50.00? The ONLY thing I can see why this is such a spike in price is the fact that it's being put on a Blue-Ray Disc. Any thoughts? I saw that shit on Gamestop and flipped out. Melody is not amused.

Because from the way I slice it, I'm paying more for shit quality and bad frame rates than I am for a much cleaner, smoother and well running interface that is the PC.

PS3 = Pay more, lower graphics, low performance.
PC = Pay less, higher graphic, higher performance.

Sony demands their pound of flesh too.
(consoles always pay more for any game)

    Thanks Yyg!

HA! Just found out, Gamestop is nothing but assholes, they want 80.00 for CE which is another 40 out of my pocket. They can kiss my clitoris because PSN has it up for 60.00 and guess who just bought it?! Tomorrow I'm taking my 40 dollar pre-order off and spending it on something else. Maybe Titan Fall.

It's $80 for the physical on Amazon.com ... Gamestop isn't ripping you off, you're paying for several *physical* items in the CE set, including the soundtrack and artbook. Also, Sony places a "tax" on any games sold for their platform, so that's where the expense is coming from.

Honestly, you've probably never bought a CE in your life or something, because even on PCs, that's the going rate, all the way up to $99, for an Activision, Konami, Electronic Arts, etc. CE "A" title. I paid $99 for my Tales of Xillia CE.

LOL if you think that's outrageous, then you've never bought a Legendary Edition of a Halo game or "Veteran" (they keep changing the names I swear) for CoD - they really take the cake.

Shit, I just got the limited edition of tales of xillia from gamestop because they had a free upgrade to it if you pre-ordred, whereas the collector's edition was also $80 (a good $20 more) and the only difference was you get a cool little statue of Milla. At least with the CoD ones you get some genuinely cool shit, like Night Vision Goggles (MW2) an RC (Black Ops) or an HD Digital Camera (Black Ops 2). Halo 4 ran me $100 for the legendary edition, but it also came with early access to specializations, the director's cut of Forward Unto Dawn, some swag (god I hate that word...) and all the DLC included at a slight discount.

So yeah, CE's aren't always a rip off, just gotta do your homework. Some of the stuff they package with the CE for ARR is really nice too, I was sorely tempted to get it just for the amazing box art. Finally, as others have said, console games are always at least $10 or more extra because of the premiums the big 3 charge to license games for their consoles. We'll have to keep putting up with it until digital only becomes a thing, or at least more developers start sticking it to the cock-blocking retailers (to which I actually have to give props to EA, they're attempting to go digital only or so they've stated).

No I have, but I know when and when it's not worth it. Skyrim was worth it.

That's subjective, but I think to call something rip-off is personal, because that may not be the case for others.

Well I just went and bought it off PSN for 60 dollars, so I'm not complaining any more. I got my mount and other fun stuff so I'm satisfied. :3

My apologies for pseudo-kinda-necroing this thread... but seriously. If you're going to get a CE of any game, you'd better be prepared to pay for it... and if you're "shelling out" for the CE already, you might as well get the physical copy of the game while you're at it. "Worth it", as Aeni said... is subjective... but the way I look at it is... if I'm buying a pure-bred puppy, I'm not going to downgrade to the one with only 3 legs just because it's cheaper.
