    Re: Pre-Order Emails

Not directly you didn't. I could log on to the 360 or PS2/PS3 and play on my account just fine using a friend's copy of the software.

Not good enough for XIV, which again is a tad asinine. Again, as an example, I know for a fact my friend is getting XIV for PS3. If I go to his place, I can't log in because I don't have a PS3 key. FFXI didn't do that, you had the 1 master account and could freely use any of the system's codes, e.g. buy it for 360, register that key, and you can still play it on PC given the software's installed. I dunno, I'm not really buying the whole piracy argument for changing that given (over the long run) 99% of the money they make will be from the subscriptions, not the initial retail figures.

Also, when does EA start anyway? the 24th ?

You actually didn't. If your friend had the game installed on his/her PS2, you could just log into your account there or borrow their install CD. For FFXIV, you need to have a PS3 key associated with your account to access the game on a PS3.

So, no. You're just discounting Mal because it's Mal.

Friends and I were able to get our codes in.

I just got lucky and flat out got my 20 digit code on the first try after numerous hours of failed attempts last night. I saw a Reddit post with a 'possible' solution and it helped my friends enter their codes:

"What finally worked for me was editing my profile settings. Basically, after going to the pre-order code entry site and picking your language, it asks you to log in. After you log in (you may need to fill in some information) it'll take you to the code entry page.
Instead of entering the code, I clicked my newly chosen handle in the upper right corner of the page. That displayed a drop down, and I clicked the "My Profile" option. That took me to the profile details page.
I filled in the information there and noticed that my language was set to English (UK). I changed that to English (US), saved my information, went back to the pre-order page, and was able to enter in my code without any problems."
Not saying it's a definite fix (and make sure you choose the right region if you're not playing/from the US) but it helped some, so it's worth a shot.

Spoke to customer service again and they admitted there was a problem with getting EA status to show up. They told me to enter the code once more and I got my 20 digit code and the e-mail instantly. For EU users at least things seem to be fixed ^_^

This weekend in the UK is a THREE DAY WEEKEND! So fucking excited guys ^_^.

Finally got it to work - new code and registered.

Shame I work this weekend anyway, but I'm glad that's settled.

Mal, Firewind is right, this is a PSN issue, not Square-Enix. It's because software is tied to your PSN ID, whereas in pre-PSN, FFXI users could log on anywhere provided that they had a legit copy installed.

No, I fully do understand. It is you who do not understand how PSN works with these kinds of games. FFXI is not tied to PSN and was never tied to PSN. It's a standalone game, very similar to Persona 3, in which it runs PS2 emulated software. FFXI also runs on PS3 as a PS2 emulated software. This means that it is not tied to PSN and does not require that kind of activation.

FFXIV, OTOH, is a fully compliant PS3 title, which means it also must adhere to Sony's PSN activation system. When paired with how an MMO operates, you essentially have a system in which you are not allowed to have different players logging in through PSN with different accounts. The sole exception (which Yoshi-P already outlined) was made where multiple PS3 titles could be registered to the same account, but that's not what Mal is talking about. He's talking about a situation in which he wants to log on his own account on someone else's client tied to their own account.

                        Edit:

Some players expressed concerns over PS4, but it wouldn't be an issue, because they count as unique devices which can be linked to their PSN account. This isn't a situation where there are 2 PS3 units that is attempting to link to the same account, which I believe is not allowed by Sony, since that would be open to abuse.

Yeah I don't see why there'd be any complications in that even since as you said, they're both Sony platforms tied to PSN. If however, you do get it for PS3/PS4 and can't play on the opposite console, then that really is taking it too far.

Though I suspect that would only be an issue for 5, 10% of the playerbase at most.

I'm wondering, however, if anyone would test this scenario:

I go to a friends house and use his PS3 unit. He also owns an FFXIV copy, fully registered to his PSN account, and is already tied to his Mog Station account.

-I log into my OWN PSN account on his PS3 (this should be possible AFAIK, as I have a JP PSN account alongside with my NA PSN account)
-I then attempt to log in to FFXIV using my own Mog Station account.
                            -????
                            -Profit ... maybe?

If that works, then that would resolve the issue you brought up, Mal. If it doesn't ... oh, well, but that just makes the whole PS4 situation a bit disconcerting with what you just illustrated.

So... Just a question, since I haven't had the time to look into everything. I'm not technically a legacy member, even though I was subscribed for a total of about 6 months during FFXIV's initial lifespan, but I did buy the collector's edition. Am I supposed to be getting into the early access at all? It keeps telling me I don't have a valid or active service account, so it's not letting me update.

Have to have legacy to get free early access. Also, being subscribed while it was free doesn't give you legacy.
