Spotted at least 2 new chocobo bardings in that video. A very "heavy armor" inspired version and a Sleipnir (Odin's mount) inspired barding. Plus, you can finally see the Black Mage version too.
Also, summoner and scholar AF look pretty nice.

Edit: Unrelated, but I really hate that XIV is going to have XIII junk in it now. Fan service is great to a point, but it can get out of hand pretty easily. I think Lightning showing up and the gear is already crossing the line a bit.

It's not bad as it's just cosmetics and Blizzard does this ALL the time with their games and I haven't heard a single valid complaint against it. It's their franchise and if they want to give a /nod and an appreciation to the FF fans out there, then more power to them. I would have a problem with this if this was a cash shop game, but fortunately this isn't the case.

To each their own I suppose. "Valid" is a very subjective term.
I don't think the gear looks like it belongs, nor do I like the fact that we're going to be doing events with Lightning in-game. It's only a matter of time before we're teaming up with cloud to fight Sephrioth or we're all running around with buster swords as soon as subscriber numbers start falling. Maybe we'll all be running around with lionhearts too? It requires a fine touch. It does their own world disservice (IMO).

I would be okay with XIII "inspired" gear, where it's altered to match the current aesthetic to mesh with the world they've spent so much time building, but as is it's just models ripped from one game and put in this one.

Yeah, yeah. First world problems. I know.

Well subjective interpretation right back at ya. FF was never known to be consistent with "cultural releated grab" in their games. You've got a hodge podge of costumes on every character, even if it made them stick out like a sore thumb. That goes way back to FFVII.

I think you've missed the memo where Yoshi-P said that this game would incorporate many references to their other FF titles and that it was a fan appreciation move. They're definitely not going to add things will nilly and so far have done the game right by it. These items or "vanities" aren't something to be complaining about since they exist in practically every game out there in the form of DLCs.

And I think this bit is worth telling, from a comment at Gematsu (and I forgot about this, as it was mentioned in a 4Gamers article)

It was added because the producer for Lightning Returns stole the Miqo'te costume for Lightning. This is just Yoshi-P poking back with friendly payback the QQ is funny.

Pretty much this. FFXI was full of D&D and Tolkein references to the point where the vanilla FFXI story was basically Lord of the Rings with the serial numbers filed off. The game was also full of references to the earlier Final Fantasy games as well. One of my favourite D&D references was having the Terrasque be a pushover Lizard NM.

It's fun fan service and it is one thing I really enjoy about Blizzard's games. There are lots of little references to the other games.

So far I have loved the FFXI references in FFXIV. There is a FATE in Thanalan where you fight Bubbly Bernie and a lot of the beastmen are in HD versions of the FFXI outfits. I wouldn't say no to outfits from other FF games as vanity items. That sort of thing is always fun. Bioware added vanity outfits from Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 to SWTOR's Cash Shop and they went down really well because the players knew the items were there for fun.

Yep. I've never hated 13 or 13-2, just was a bit underwhelmed. I still think they made some good changes to the series in terms of combat, they just completely shit the bed on the story & cast :/

At least it was popular with the hipsters :p I'm assuming you ain't one and the reason why you asked. I didn't hate it, but I never loved it either. It does rank kind of low on my all-time FF listing, but I've never hated a single FF title they put out. Life is too short to be hung up on ... video games, of all things.

I completely agree with this and it is why I have given up on Game/Music/Movie snobbery. Sure the critics know what they are on about, and as someone who has worked as a peer reviewer of academic texts in the fields of History and Archaeology, trust me, REVIEWING IS NOT AN EASY JOB, especially if you have worked on the other side and have tried to get academic journals published. Yes I might not look like it but I have damn near been a published historian if it wasn't for how elitist both the English Historical Review and the German Historical Review are.

It is that alone that made me realise that the life is too short to get hung up on the little things. Just go with what you like and tell anyone that says it's the wrong thing to go fuck themselves.
