Re: Regional Data Centers and World Transfers (06/05/2013)

Spent the entire weekend arguing with Square Enix customer support (spending an average time of 50 minutes per phone call on hold) about my Beta Key. Apparently having a 1.0 character, the CE and having been playing FFXIV since ALPHA is not enough to get you Legacy Status. Apparently having been accepted for Beta Phase 2 doesn't make your automatically eligible for Phase 3.

So apparently I don't have Legacy Status despite being Accepted for Phase 1 and 2 (I didn't play during Phase 1 though due to real life stuff), and that means I can't play Phase 3 even though people who have 1.0 characters got Beta Keys regardless of Legacy Status. I'll note that I played FFXIV 1.0 since the last Alpha Phase, bought the CE and actually remained subscribed until the game went through its free to play phase.

SE Customer Service still insists that nothing is wrong and refuses to cough up a code...

Now I'm currently on the phone, on hold again (have been for roughly 80 minutes now) trying to get a cancellation and a refund on my ARR CE because I'm sick of this shit.

Sorry but you're SoL if you didn't get it within the specified timeframe - they gave a good 5~6 months notice, and if you didn't qualify in that time, that's your problem, not SE's.

I did get it in the timeframe. I returned to the game and left my sub running for the 90 days required to get legacy... This is what I've spent the entire weekend arguing with them. Given I have bank statements and invoices that show exactly how long I have been subscribed and when I have more than enough evidence to back it up.

          OK found it:

          FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone

So you had to have had 90 days paid between January 6, 2012 and I believe the cutoff was last August IIRC? Sometime around there. I made it with about a month & a half to spare.

I was paid up for May, June, July and August 2012 at the very least, and have evidence supporting that from my account page, invoices e-mailed to me when paying subs, bank statements that reveal payments to Square Enix etc. Of course the people in the customer Service call centre aren't interested in that and there doesn't seem to be anyone I can physically send the copies to because the e-mail system is woefully inadequate and there is no address for me to mail copies to.

That's some epic horseshit then, wtf.

You should have gotten legacy status automatically. Now that I think about it, I remember a few others complaining about this very same issue waaaay back on the old forums.

The whole Gear Set-Armory system is so ingenious, it's just down right impossible to go to any game without it now. It takes Blizzard's armory set to a whole new level. It takes the equipment out of the bags, essentially giving you many times more inventory space than in 1.0 (Main Hand, Off Hand, Head, Neck, Chest, Arm, Waist, Legs, Earring, Necklace and 2 Rings have 25 slots portioned for them and then a few more for soul shards for the jobs) That's 300+ inventory slots in addition to 100 bag slots (for a total of over 400 storage slots!) Not including the 175 storage slots per retainer. Anyone complaining about a lack of storage needs to check in with their local psychiatric clinic. To have all this and be able to access the items at near instantaneous speeds is just a marvel to behold. That alone has sold me on the game. They still need a lot of other things to iron out or at least have us test out (looks like quite a bit won't even be ready until release or even after release)

I just learned you can even drag gear sets onto the hotbar. Handy for switching between crafting and gathering jobs.

o.o this is good to know.

My only gripe with the armory chest, is that gear that's part of a set but isn't equipped still takes up physical space inside the chest - in Phase 1 and 2, any gear sets you had set didn't take up inventory slots.

This is an issue for me, as I like to play everything, and while having multiple armors etc. hasn't been much of an issue thus far, I imagine it definitely will be once I get back to using AF. It's already a nightmare for weapons as I scarcely have room to carry more than 1 weapon/tool per class.

                    It's a great system, but... PS3 limitations

EDIT: Sorry Aeni, but I already ran into massive inventory issues in beta rofl... between all the ingredients I'm carrying and gear/food... yeah it's not enough

Plus for some fucked up reason they made it so you can't get a retainer until you're done the main quest line (i'm assuming anyway, as I just got to the 1st of the 3 dungeons and I still can't hire one which is pissing me off as I really needed to unload my crafting materials).

After you finish the three dungeons, the next quest grants you retainer access, iirc. It's the one that sends you to Vesper Bay. I'm glad I didn't start dabbling in crafting until after reaching that milestone, because inventory management certainly did get out of hand at that point.

... you guys can't possibly be serious. I hopped on my Legacy character and after completing Baderon's introductory quest (You need to complete this or he won't allow you to leave the Drowning Wench) I went straight to Hawker's Alley and spoke with the nice NPC there who allowed me to create retainers. With each new retainer I created, the name of my previous retainers were already filled in, and accepting those default names lead me straight away to my 1.0 retainers with all of the inventory they were hauling around for. My gil and the items were mostly (I say this, because I can't remember with 100% certainty) there.

I don't know about starting from scratch. However, you don't really need it if you were starting from scratch, because city restrictions and not being able to get too many DOx classes in one city makes inventory a non-issue.

I really don't get why you need more than one of anything per class. Why are you hauling around multiple chests for one class? That puzzles me. All of your wonderful and amazing rewards from events should go into cold storage - that armoire in your inn room. Well, that's what I do, and have no inventory issues. The only place I can see there being problems is with rings, because you have 25 armory slots shared over 2 physical character paper doll slots. With multiple classes, space goes pretty quick. But that's the only area I've identified as an issue. The rest is a non-issue and has more to do with "hoarding" than any real (or imagined) problems.

                        Here's a pro-tip solution for game-play:

You can either (a) pick a class for each category and level it straight up before working on any others or (b) level all classes in each category simultaneously. Square Enix has never required anyone to level ALL classes to level cap. It is entirely up to the individual, but there is a reasonable limit they've added, and I think it's beyond reason to expect them to accommodate the most extreme outlier of play styles (that being an obsessive compulsive desire to level ALL classes AT ANY TIME)

C'mon folks, stick to a few, and you should be fine. Otherwise, just deal with your choices and stop bitching.

Well after spending the entire weekend arguing I finally managed to get my access to tbe beta back on my account. I'm still arguing with them about the Legacy Status but knowing Square Enix Customer Service and the speed at which they get things done, I might see a response from that some time next year.

I suppose it was a blessing in disguise. SWTOR Double XP Weekends have started up again so it meant I could level up my Bounty Hunter some more for the Legacy Perks. Just need that storyline done and I will have all the class buffs and all of the Imperial Side Heroic Moment Powers unlocked.

I haven't actually touched my legacy character yet, been too enthralled by LL and UD with my new beta character.

And what the fuck are you talking about multiple chests? You get the 1 set of 25 slots per category that's shared among everything you choose to level. I wanted to test it out on my new character because that was how I rolled in 1.0 and even back then with the 200 inventory + 2 retainers I was still struggling for inventory space (I have so much stuff rofl...)

Same thing in XI - was so happy when we got Porter Moogles, but even after that I managed to maintain a near-capacity inventory. I just have a pack-rat mentality from playing too many survival horror games and a love of crafting/being self-sufficient. What I was doing was leveling 1 craft up to X level, and then switching to the next 1 and so on to gradually eliminate older gear but also keep all my stuff in line - for example I did CRP until I got to around the Ash Lumber phase, and then used all that maple I made for BSM and LTW etc. until I needed Ash, and then switched back. I bought a lot of materials in the early stages as it was far more expedient to buy copper ores @ 2 gil each for example rather than waste time & precious fire shards making ingots.

But between leveling BTN, MIN, and just killing mobs & even to a degree crafitng itself (going down the checklist of items for EXP bonuses) my bag fills up quickly and I hate to toss/sell anything when I figure I'll probably need it at some point for a later recipe - except for durable goods like armor, I just sold the bulk of that (unless it was something I could really use) to NPCs which worked fine on WVR and LTW, but not so much on BSM - BSM makes most of the tools & weapons, and it's kinda shitty losing inventory space holding on to items I've made and can't (but will later) use.

I don't have a legacy character so starting right in with the retainers wasn't an option for me. Leveling gladiator to 20 and conjurer to 12 filled up just over a page of inventory. Leveling alchemist to 10 filled up nearly two, so when I got my retainer I was down to my last page of inventory. Not exactly critical condition, but I wouldn't have been able to hold everything whole taking alchemist to 19 for the second materia quest.

I've been holding all my armor as I go so I'll have it if I level another disciple of war. Only if something is completely redundant with identical requirements do I get rid of it, e.g. plundered plate belt and aetherial plate belt. Only one weapon for each class, of course. Unfortunately, I sold all the extra stuff to an NPC before I learned about the materia system. ><; Not that I was running out of space in my armory or anything, it's just that the clutter was getting on my nerves.

All our data will get wiped at the end of phase 3 so doesn't matter much anyway.

That said, I'm really hating how quickly I ran into inventory issues lol. I'm also extremely underwhelmed by Food - CUL was the 1st thing I went to starting in LL and honestly, I have to say I really really hate most of the food changes. Most of the stuff I can make is all +1 VIT, +1 Acc and then PIE or something stupid like that, and then either skill speed, determination (which is a good stat but the boost is so low) or spell speed, all of which the stats for are crap...

What was wrong with having straight up STR/Attack food like before? The benefits of using food early on (except CP food when crafting which I find makes the difference between 1 extra careful synth or not) are so lackluster it's not worth the gil, not even close.
