Regional Data Centers and World Transfers (06/05/2013)
We're making plans when they open up the application. The JP servers seem to be mildly congested with a lot of non-JP players and if the JP players are prevented from creating characters on their "regional" servers, too many negative feedback from them would cause SE to region lock (JP servers) And I can't fathom why EU players or NA players would want to play on JP servers if their latency is going to be hitting 300-500ms. That's a terrible way to play the game and will result in terrible experiences for everyone else (e.g., group activities in "hard mode" encounters)
I think it's noble that SE opens up servers for everyone, but at the same time, I think there are those with very little brain cells and are inconsiderate people that tend to complain about possible region locking.
(P.S., The new fiber lines from Japan to the EU/Russia isn't going to be available for at least a few years, so that argument doesn't hold water)
Re: Regional Data Centers and World Transfers (06/05/2013)
While it is plausable that I could play in the mornings with you Aeni, I'm honestly not sure if I really want to play on a server where there are few people in my time zone which is why my server choice will likely be up in the air until I know where the EU players and Roleplayers are playing.
The 1.0 Unofficial RP Server was Balmung, but depending on latency and if there are even people in my timezone there I might just stuck with Ragnarok.

So there's a lot of Roleplayers who don't have legacy Characters planning on rerolling on Gilgamesh for a fresh start. It is actually VERY tempting to join them. Fresh start and people to group up with. I actually really like Roleplaying in MMOs, it gives you something to do between levelling, endgame and crafting, and is one of the main reasons I log on to SWTOR when it's not a Raid or PvP night at the moment.

I ping under 100MS for the US/EU servers since they are all located in Montreal. There seems to be a good EU community on Balmung so I'm giving that server a go for now.
The IP to ping is 184.107.107.176 for those interested.

I got in Excalibur. Will continue to monitor this thread and move to Hyperion or whatever if necessary. It was already 3 stars at like 4AM (CST) so I suspect it might be closed by the end of today...

inb4 lots of wapanese on JP servers trying to be cool, JP players getting pissed at foreign players with legitimate reasons for being there (weird schedules), EU players doing roughly the same to NA players, US players getting pissed off at anyone who doesn't speak English, RPers sobbing quietly that FF players still aren't into that, because APPARENTLY JRPGs aren't about role-playing in the western sense or something

You were able to post that earlier but you didn't have time to head to the site and apply? took me all of 15 seconds.

OK so, I got my application for Excalibur through, but Nef is still showing up on Ragnarok... not sure if I should log on with her or not. when you guys applied for Excalibur, did you get any kind of e-mail notice afterwards saying you got accepted?

No e-mail. And of course she would show up as Ragnarok. She's on Ragnarok, not Excalibur yet. Only way to check is to log into the transfer page and see where the defaulted transfer world is. Mine is defaulted to Excalibur on the drop down menu.
