Ex Player Thinking of getting back into FFXI - Members Thoughts

Hi everyone.

I don't know why but I had some interest to rekindle my time with FFXI. I know a lot has changed. Here is some of my background.

I have started playing the game in '04 until '06. I left the game once Tresures of Aht Urgan (not sure if that is correct spelling) was released. Have played many MMO's since but then I saw some video for some new FFXIV expansion I believe and it brought some of the best memories I had with XI. I just had a few questions to see how much has changed since '06.

1. Is FFXIV a sequel to FFXI?
2. From reviews, FFXI seems to hold its own compared to FFXIV. Are they still releasing new content in Square Enix's development cycles? If so, may git it a shot again
3. Has there been a lot of significant changes to the point where the content now has a different feel than it used to back in '06. (EX. Different mechanics now with classes.) I don't like a lot of change from what I remember and if it is a different feel, I probably won't get back into it.

Any feed back is greatly appreciated. Your opinions might help me decide whether I should give it a try again to relive some great moments I had back when I first started playing. Nostalgia you know.

Also some information on what I have done for my accomplishments in the game back then.

75 WHM 37 BLM 37 SMN. (I love healing. It was fun. I would probably play WHM all over again.)
Dynamis 3/5 AF2 pieces.
Some Sky and Sea experience as well.

Also, can I still play it for the Xbox or does it have to be on PC now with new content? Can I still buy it for the Xbox?

Let me know of your thoughts on this. Maybe I will see you guys again who knows.

1. XIV is not a sequel. It is completely seperate.
2. XI is still going strong. There is a new expansion coming out this month (a full new one with new zones and such, not a rehash of old zones). They have some new content (Meeble Burrows), as well as revamping for the level increase some of the old content (Nyzul, Salvage, Limbus, Einherjar).
3. Most of the old content does have a different feel because you are now 24 levels higher than it was intended for. Most of it can be soloed and definitely duoed with a healer and DD. The current dev team is working on revamping some of the mechanics (enmity, defense), but I wouldn't say that at this point that it is wholly different. Some classes that you probably remember as being strong, aren't anymore (RDM, NIN) and some that you remember being weak (or don't remember at all) are among the strongest (SCH).
4. You can play it on Xbox, but I don't know about finding new discs. You may have to buy used discs and then buy a new code from Steam or something like that.

My advice is to stay away. I quit back in 2007, and had the same itch as you to come back, and I did last March. I played until November, where I got burned out and left again (hopefully for good). There is no nostalgia to be had. The game has changed so profoundly you won't even recognize it. It took me a long time to come to grips with the way it's played now. Do yourself a favor and forget this game. I certainly wish I had.
