This is correct. So, for those of you that have not yet read the roadmap, check it out here: http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/dow...Roadmap_EN.pdf

    Essentially, there are 4 phases:

Phase 1 + Phase 2 are CLOSED BETA. In other words, highly restricted access with an NDA in place. This means that none of you participating in either of these phases are allowed to distribute media and other information about the game.

Phase 3 + Phase 4 are OPEN BETA and in addition, the PS3 testing will be opened up to players, with priority access given to those with a beta code that was distributed with pre-order/first presss copies of FFXIII (back in early 2010) These codes were NOT distributed with the Players Choice (or whatever it was called) versions of FFXIII (aka discounted version)

In Phase I, those that are given access are as follows in order of priority:

    1. Employees (duh)
    2. Contracted Testers (aka professional testers)
    3. Friends and Family Program (Most game development companies/studios have these internal programs in place)
    4. Press & Media
    5. Legacy Account Holders
    6. FFXIV Account Holders (Lottery-based)
    7. Beta Testing Applicants (Lottery-based)

Moving into Phase 3, the same will still hold, with the addition of "reserved" lottery keys, which are usually distributed to online media/fansites for redistribution in the form of contest prizes (they cannot be resold as it is illegal and I believe Canadians are usually out of luck on this due to their arcane laws regarding sweepstakes in general)

Phase 4 will be fully opened, as usually it's the shortest of all the phases, as by this point, SE will solely be focused on monitoring network traffic, catching exploits, fixing bugs and polishing up dialog, quests, etc. This is the part of the beta test that tends to attract the most players and garner the most attention from the press and media.

Eh it's not super horrible here, but a lot of our lotteries do require you answer some stupid skill-testing question even if you're 18+ which is annoying as shit.

It's only annoying if you're not smart enough to answer the question.

This is just a reminder that your account will be suspended if you are found to be breaking the NDA. Everyone here has a responsibility to report YT accounts as well as any FB, Google+, Twitter, etc accounts that are in violation of the NDA, and as well as any other place that I've not mentioned (2ch, 4ch, BG, etc)

I don't know ... I'm the kind of guy that thinks when people just watch a girl get raped out in public and don't do anything to intervene, that they should, in fact, ALL GO TO JAIL.

Rape and breaking the NDA for a video game in beta... My how close these two things have gotten in equivalency.

People who create grey areas for themselves shouldn't be surprised when they find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Just saying.

You just equivalated bodily harm to an NDA. You made a huge leap and now defending it by no real means. Please resubmit your argument in why the two are equal. I'm just many rape victims would love to slap you upside the head for that one.

Oh. Also. I only posted that gif as a joke. Herpderp.

I really think he was just making a point of people doing something about infractions rather than just idly sitting by and letting them happen, not so much equating rape with breaking an NDA.

I agree, I feel that the NDA is there for a reason, I do not equal it to rape, but I do feel that if you play and test under a NDA, you should try to at least follow it. I mean friends coming over one day, and happen to see a little of it is one thing, but posting live streams and tons of screen shots are another.
