I'm just speculating here but ...

Suppose that SE releases ARR for the PS3 and are not likely to continue to support it for future updates (which would be a bad decision on their part, but whatever) If the included BR disc already contains the PS4 tech (embedded microchip) for DRM, then since all you need is a PSN account, PS3 owners wouldn't need to worry about having to buy the game "again" and can make the transition smoothly to the PS4 at the time of their choosing.

However, it's likely that SE may not take that route, and I fear for what kind of bottlenecking this will pose down the road for future expansions. If you grant the 8 year life cycle for an MMO title (although technically FFXIV is already in its 3rd year, albeit not continuously), then that is a very long time to be shackled down. If they plan to treat the PC platform differently and with greater reverence than they've shown in a previous title (cough*XI*cough) then that might be A-OK for many players, but I don't know ... console owners tend to be both fickle and a noisome bunch.

Also people are overexaggerating consoles holding back PC mmorpgs. FFXI Online was still fun and successful despite PS2, FFXIV ARR can still be successful and expansive with PS3 united with PC. There's still a lot of positive things, mew.

Eh, the pokemon weirdness and time travel aside, I still found it enjoyable. Sara and Noel were genuinely decent characters, and the combat WAS pretty fun. Just, again, SE really needs to re-evaluate their writers because dear God wtf...

Now then. You're being a bit delusional if you think the PS3 will not hamper the development of FFX|V. Sure, the graphics can be scaled, but what about everything else? What if SE wanted to do CvC style PvP? (CvC = Company vs. Company ala WvW in GW2.) Then what? The PS3 could definitely not support that kind of gameplay due to the RAM limitation. Just because graphics can be down and upgraded based on the system being used, doesn't mean other aspects won't suffer.

anyway, I still don't agree of FFXIV ARR abandoning PS3 for PS4, you'd still have the PS3 subscribers and a PS4 port could still happen without making console buyers have to exclusively buy a PS4 to play FFXIV ARR on console, mew.

just like Xbox360 FFXI Online looks better than PS2 FFXI Online but that didn't change the fact that many PS2 fans subscribed to FFXI Online for very long time even after the Xbox360 version released, the community also benefitted from PS2, X360 and PC communities instead of just two platforms.

I don't know about you ... but I don't want to spend a lot of time trying to download 12GB into the PS3 or PS4 for that matter. There's no good solution to this problem other than a voucher or "trade-in" for a new PS4 disc.

Pretty much why I'm not buying the Seekers of Adoulin PC collection - not to mention all the updates. Seriously goddamn SE not making a retail disc for the PC and just 360 (and PS2 in Japan I'd imagine). Especially not with how much my ISP charges on going over your monthly limits (fuckers).

I played on PS2 and Xbox360, had no serious gameplay/performance problems with either one besides natural mmorpg lag here and there (and xbox360 version looking better)

maybe besieged would freeze on people, but as a whole very playable and cool, mew.

also if people missed the news in the other topic:

- 40 mini pets will be available from the start of phase 1 beta
- Housing will be out immediately after launch
- Doesn't seem like PvP will be out for launch
- Raids may not be concluded in 2013. This means Crystal Tower may continue getting additional floors
- 1-2 primals may be added this year. Not sure if this means two more from what we got ni 1.0 or two more aside from Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, Ramuh, and Garuda. Is Odin being counted as a primal?
- Odin is in the Black Shroud. The fight will be special somehow.
- Behemoth will be tackled via FATE system. Seems that the fight has several phases. Will be available at launch
- One does not simply walk into Crystal Tower.
- Sahagin's will be in at launch.
- As regions expand they will probably add more primals per new beastman tribe or something.
- Unsure if they will allow us to change jobs in dungeons.
- NPC will recognize the difference between 1.0 players and new players.
- "Oh, and a question was asked about DRG having a pet, which was replied to with "Not just Dragoons...""

12 GB is easy download, mew. People got used to the Metal Gear Online download time, as well as big GB downlaods 8-10+ GB for things like DCUO, Warriors Orochi 3, etc.

Even for download speeds that may take a whole day, just download it and you don't have to worry about it anymore, mew.

Downloading the full thing is really less time it takes to wait for an mmorpg to be done with 24 hour maintenance.

Also considering FFXIV ARR will be the only thing worth playing, it's not bad buying it again for PS3 if you have PC,
or buying it again for PS4 for those that plan to invest on PS4 when FFXIV gets a port for it. It's really little money buying an mmorpg again compared to
monthly purchases of $60 games, there are some people that spend $120 a month on just 8 hour videogames.

So yea it's really not huge spending unless your buying a whole console/PC for it.
but for FFXIV ARR, it's worth it.

Yeah, Jesus fucking Christ. My old rig was pretty beefy but WvW just crushed it so horribly I had to build a brand new rig just to get my FPS into double digits.
