They didn't mention a New Game+ feature. Also, I'm really disappointed we're just being thrown into the future, yet the world looks untouched by Bahamut. That's just a real cop out.

Also, why the fuck are they still developing the game for the PS3? Developers have had their hands on next gen dev kits for at least weeks by now, and why would they pass up on the opportunity to have a launch title? That's a lot of free attention from early adopters.

Players who have come from 1.0 and new players will be treated differently by NPCs. It's not a big difference and it will even out at later stages in the story. Legacy players will kind of be having the "stronger new game" kind of thing going.

Stronger new game could mean anything. A New Game+ feature doesn't make any sense in the context of an MMO.

Stronger new game would be harder missions for those of us with legacy, so we won't just have to faceroll to win. Essentially, New Game+ until we start to near end game story.

Anyways. Housing? Fucking finally. Why has no other MMO besides FF done this properly?

There are many differences in landscape, and that is just in the areas that where available in alpha, more will be different then you think.

I think they meant it in the sense of we'll be experiencing the new game differently from others, i.e. NPCs give different dialogue?

Who knows, we'll find out soon enough. I'm sure as shit not re-rolling my character (except maybe for cosmetic changes) though given that we're allowed 8 slots for the price of 1 (Legacy FTW) I may make a new character just to see if there is some kind of NG+.

I don't know ... what would the point of having a New Game+ be? Almost everyone with a Legacy standing has at least one Basic Class to level 50 and thus a corresponding Advanced Class to 50 as well. Yoshi-P said that there is no talk of raising the level cap for at least a while (SE speak - possibly 2 years unless Yoshi-P and company have their way) So basically Legacy will be AT END GAME. And for those that have every class to 50 (you know who you are), I find it appalling that they wouldn't have end game content out of the gate already in place.

If they are worried or concerned about the progression rift between new and continuing players, they ought to just wipe the board clean for everyone (with clemency granted in keeping *some* of the gil and then storing all collected rare/ex/unique items into cold storage until Legacy players reach 50 on any one class to grant access to those items again)

By New Game+, it's missions will be harder in difficulty because you have a character at the cap. That level 25 mission? Adjusted to your character level. That's why they said it would balance out as you reached higher level content.

That's actually not true at all Aeni, he specifically said there'd be a level cap raise shortly after Summoner's release - 2 or 3 updates after launch IIRC.

mew! PS3 is better than PS4. Most people aren't going to pay $300+ for a new console. and PS4 is already being looked down upon being digital only/used games banned. Remember PS3 didn't really get popular until further ahead and when price drops got down to around $200. buying PS4 to be first in line isn't smart thing to do, mew. Plus PS3 has superior install base so FFXIV ARR sales would be MUCH better on PS3 instead of PS4. If people spent money for a launch PS4 they might as well buy a PC, mew.

For the kids in class that are paying attention - and you should be embarrassed because this totally isn't me, I've been doodling and daydreaming - FFXIV's new engine has been built to scale to new platforms. In other words, they developed this with newer platforms in mind as well.

Perhaps you've heard Resident Evil Revelations is coming to PS3, 360 and Wii U or you've noticed Street Fighter X Tekken and Super Street Fighter IV hit Vita and 3DS respectively. See, Capcom has this neat thing called MT Framework, which allows them to scale these big or small games to bigger or smaller platforms and not lose too much in terms of how those games performed within their engines.

This is what FFXiV is doing and what works for PS3 and PC will work for PS4, the next Xbox and whatever better PC you might build.

So FFXIV: A Realm Reborn isn't going to languish on PS3 and there's going to be little or no "PS3 limitations." Your PC version of FFXIV would be able to enjoy all the new graphical bells and whistles and PS3s honestly should have enough HDD going for it now that updates and revisions to the game don't hold anyone back. PS3's version is going to have its issues, obviously - there's just no getting around its laughable RAM allocation, but its not going to be the kind of hindrance PS2 sometimes was to PC with FFXI.

Right, I honestly forgot that Yoshi had said that in an interview a while back. So when the time comes, they'll (hopefully) drop support for PS3 and switch to PS4 - though that's likely several years off.

Speaking of PS4, Sony's little shindig's only a week away isn't it? Though honestly I doubt we'll learn much pre-E3 (but you never know with crazy Kaz). I sincerely hope the rumors of the new consoles having over 2 GB RAM is true, because seriously it's embarrassing at this point the pathetic amount of RAM that console developers have to work around.
