It's not terrible. She's no longer a blue woman in a bathing suit. In her concept art she's blue, but in the character model she has a more elvaan skin color.

She was an Elf in XI too - just she's not albino for once.

Dunno, I kinda like the white skin/blue hair dynamic.

At first glance, I thought it read "SHINRA", and had a near panick that they were FF7'ing FFXIV.

Shiva was suppose to be based off of the Hindu deity but looks like they're going to take a more dramatic shift away from their cultural "norms" at their office. Not that I care ... certain creative liberties are what makes a game unique, but the whole resurgence "elf" bandwagoning that's been going on in JP pop culture in the past couple of years is getting a bit ... overwhelming.

Well, considering the Hindu god is male, Square's Shiva has always been a radical departure from the source material. (AFAIK Hindu Shiva is not associated with ice either, but I haven't researched that.)

I think it's both actually, but I could be mistaken. I know my friend who studies this stuff telling me of at least one deity that is both genders.

Shiva is a he and is known as The Destroyer or The Transformer. Absolutely nothing to do with the ice element and if anything he'd be more closely related to Ramuh, based on his "association" with Rudra.

No, I meant that Shiva was an embodiment on the idea of the Hindu Deity, but that they are taking a departure from that "original SE Shiva". The only concern (if you can even call it that, because I never really cared too much about how these things actually look) was that they decided to morph that idea of Shiva they had all of these years with elfin qualities. For the most part, it had remained relatively unchanged, aside from costumes, cosmetic augmentation (lol) and shades of skin color.

I was pretty sure Ramuh was based off of Indra who was the god of thunder.

Come to think of it, I wondered if SE named their Shiva the way they did because they thought people would recognize that name more than that of Parvati, who was Shiva's consort in Hinduism. Parvarti's father was none other than Himavan who is associated with the ice element.
