Good to see SE are doing a 3 month beta phase and not rushing it.

Lets just hope that people contribute positively this time and it is not a repeat of the 1.0 beta which was full of people I hope never to have the misfortune of meeting again.

Rant aside, pretty much as I expected in terms of delivery time, looks like the game wont be available for release until Q3 2013 but I think thats a good thing.

Also, it's nice to see that the folks who bought FF13 and used the promo-code will get priority for the (at long last) PS3 beta for phase 3~4.

3 Months for a beta is kind of short really for an MMO release so I hope they know what they are doing. I've both seen and played in beta testing phases that were quite a bit longer. Hopefully they learned from last time and launch doesn't immediately follow the Beta (with the FFXIV release the game launched literally the day after Beta closed). The original FFXIV release build was completely identical to the Beta build, hence the "Paid Beta" name it was given.

Also quick question? How do you qualify as a Legacy Member? Given that I was in the Alpha (they started letting EU players play in the later phases of it) and played the closed and open beta and played FFXIV from the first days, I wouldn't mind knowing if I qualify or not.

I believe if you log into your FFXIV account in your SE management, it'll have the legacy logo next to your account if you've been upgraded to legacy status. They also sent out an e-mail on your third month of billing; it was also shown on the character select screen within the client.

Yeah even in the Alpha I believe there was a notice in the top-right corner (I think?) that again confirms your legacy status.

As long as you paid for 3 months total before the august deadline I think you're fine, not 100% sure though. As we've said, you can check your account a number of ways.

3 months for beta testing isn't short at all, especially since we're not talking about a completely new game from scratch. I'm sure they will delay release if they find that the game isn't up to par, which is what Yoshi-P promised, so I'm not worried one bit. I'm kind of curious, though, that Blizzard chose to release HotS at around the same time as FFXIV, and I wonder if they're trying to keep WoW players from defecting to other MMOs with these "side games".

well a lot of the games main code has been changed, heck it is even using a new graphics engine ;p
