By efficient I'm sure they mean scalable. They'll scale it down for the PS3, up for the generation that comes next, and give the PC players the option to decide based on their personal computer's specs, all within a single system.

That sounds like you're putting an awful lot of faith in SE to do something smart.

They've already said they've done what Dak said. With that "smart" comment in mind, rebooting the game and showing the fans they are serious about the Final Fantasy franchise again speaks volumes. Even if that meant letting go some prior game directors that were around for quite some time.

I agree with Etra's sentiments. Letting Tanaka-san go was a huge deal for Square-Enix. Only because he was considered a mainstay in the company and no one would've thought of pushing him aside to give a new developer with little experience a shot at turning the game around. That's a big gamble which is already paying off handsomely in spades if you just look at the improvements already made to Tanaka-san's creation (not many people can do that without gutting the game completely)

I'm not saying we should place blind trust. However I'm willing to give Yoshi-P the benefit of doubt. For some people to say something like, "same company, same shit" is largely ignorant. Yes, it's the same company, but no, it isn't necessarily the same motivations or the same talent.

The Yoshi part was what made me trust him.

Mal, are you seriously complaining about shitty SE service

              like seriously

This would've been a valid complaint five years ago. Now it's sort of like complaining about your husband is cheating on you. And your husband is Bill Clinton. And it's 2012.

Yoshi's been with them for a while now actually - nearly as long as Tanaka but still; Naoki Yoshida - The Final Fantasy Wiki has more Final Fantasy information than Cid could research

Aside from a few missteps and some questionable changes (DPS factoring into WS dmg, The new Primal system...) he's done a damned good job thus far. It's not that I don't love Tanaka for XI and his other projects, but the guy just refused to get with the times.

I know, but you have to admit their track record is not great. I hope the reboot turns this game into a success. I don't see it, but maybe it will be. I'm done giving SE my money after everything that happened in XI. I just wanted to go for a quick funny, which ultimately failed. Win some, lose some. /shrug

If anything, it re-affirmed the morale for the game. So, I'd say it was a win.

Also, random opinion, but if they took Final Fantasy XI and made it into a movie (one movie for each expansion) with the sort of detail shown in this cinematic video... I'm sorry... But it would destroy LOTRO and Star Wars. Just saying.

Each expansion would have to be it's own movie then lol. Even Abyssea could make for a decent film, what with the whole world ending & all (though that'd be a bit too similar to WotG on Lilith's side). I'd totally support it though.

You've watched the movies yes? They never turn out the way we expect them to.

Not SW ... different Genre. Although I'm willing to bet Xenosaga would destroy SW.

Just about anything would destroy Spirits Within - it was terrible.
