  • FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn -- End of an Era

I honestly thought Nael was serving Odin... but I should have seen this coming, given he uses Megaflare in the fight against him.

F'ING AWESOME! A little too close to WoW's Cataclysm, but different enough.

Didn't see this thread ... I watched this as part of the Producer Live IV It's still going as I type this. Seeing concepts for player housing (will have a variety depending on city) What was sexy was seeing 100 players on screen with little lag. :O

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IV Q&A Updates

        https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...eview?sle=true

So, they're changing all the core stats for every class :O

A11: Basically, there won't be too many changes. In the current version, there are fluctuations in the resulting stats for materia, but in ARR these fluctuations will be removed. The rate for multiple melding will be higher than it is currently, and the materia system as a whole will be made more casual.
        THANK GOD!

OK super late, just wanted to say that while the letter was awesome, I'm more than a little pissed off at SE right now.

I tried for a good 30 minutes as the final event began and got nothing but time outs, and now the servers are down. That's BS, I really wanted to see it god damn it.

Just watch the video. It was heavily congested and there were people who were getting on for FREE OF CHARGE (why not, right?) ... if there's anything to blame, it's human nature.

Makes you wanna snuggle with blankies and nuzzle with pillowie and serve a helping of syrup with cupcakes on the side and pancakes and waffles, mew!!

I'm not forgiving SE for this one.

That's a ridiculous dick move on their part, the reason I couldn't get on a good hour prior to the event, was because my final bill came in before the 29th of Sept. On the 28th to be exact. They deliberately restricted log-ins! WTF?! Oh and I'm supposed to just accept Wada apologizing for that at the end of the letter?

              No, fuck you SE.

Stop whining like a bitch. If you had recurring billing (like I did) you wouldn't have had this issue.

Mal hasn't payed subscription since Sept? Was there billing through October? Mal could have checked to make sure they still had Oct and Nov sub paid earlier this month, right?

Does recurring billing means they automatically take money from your bank account without you needing to manually pay them monthly?

                    Yes.

And if he's going to rage over an event that means absolutely shit, I will mockingly point and laugh at him.

I did have a recurring bill tyvm. Shows up on my Visa like clockwork each month.

I was supposed to be online with the LS and we were all gonna take some final screenshots together at the event, to commemorate 1.0

oh maybe if you logged on sooner before event and stay logged in, that could have avoided the scenario that they might close logins in preparation for the server shut down? that way, in case there's some billing issue, you might have been able to solve/update it in time. some people that got in, probably stayed logged in all evening before event.

Anyone care to summarize what that video was about for us non-FFXIVers?

Because I got goosebumps, yet I don't even know what I just watched.

                            @.@ L2R

I tried getting online an hour in advance. From what I'm hearing on the forums, lots of people were getting booted even during it and couldn't get back on. Just, lousy all-around service right at the end.

                            EDIT: For Nandito -

The whole grand plot behind FFXIV was Nael Van Darnus, head of the 7th Legion leading the invasion of Eorzea. It culminated in his going all Kuja on us and calling down Dalamud, the Red Moon (which was drawn to closely resemble meteor in FFVII) which was believed to have been responsible for the demise of the ancients. Turns out it was really Bahamut's prison, which means he's the one who wiped them out and they must have died trying to seal him away. Nael being the shmuck that he was, ultimately died (seemingly - I maintain he's still alive somehow as you can see what looks like his essence being pulled into Dalamud after beating him) but not before calling it down using ancient keys or something like that along with a transmitter that was setup in Castrum Novum.

So Bahamut went apeshit as could be expected and horribly smashed the landscape, forcing Louisoix to send us forward through time past the destruction in the hopes that we may set things right at a later time. That's where ARR begins.

I'm not sure if I'm happy or annoyed at the blatant FFXI trope here. I mean, Bahamut went and smashed the Zilart in Vana'diel, and now he's done it again in Hydaelen - although for much different reasons it would seem.

The giant meteor was built by an ancient empire and sent to the sky for some mysterious Final Fantasy-esque reason (after watching the video, we find out it was to encase Bahamut and protect Eorzea from his wraith.) The now Garlean empire summoned it to crash down into Eorzea. Final boss was in the middle of summoning when you kill him. However, "Meteor" absorbs his life force and continues to fall. The old guy (who is supposedly one of the gods or the god's vessel) teleports you into the future to survive. And thus the remake of the game begins WoW: Cataclysm style.
