Huh? Arcanist? When did they mention that? You got info on it?

Until they change the way SMN is going to work... if at all, I'm not coming back. I refuse to play a game where my favorite job has been bastardized. I'm not losing any sleep over it, though. I still have Seekers to look forward to in FFXI.

I still think you misunderstand the way the summoning job is going to work... You took one sentence that Yoshi said in an interview about how a couple of the summoners avatars behave, and threw a tantrum. Not all avatars behave that way, and i think you don't fully understand it.

You take me for someone that gives a shit if you play or not, lol... I dont ahve access to the interviews from work so i can't post specifics, but i think a couple of the avatars are wandering ones that you cna beat and then use for a certain amount of time. View it as beating Odin in FFXI and then after you beat him, you can summon him for a fight. The majority of all the avatars work differently, where they aren't wandering and can be summoned. From everything I've seen, nothing has been finalized with the summoner job, everything is still being worked on. Anything that has been released were just possibilities and nothing conrete.

Re: 25th Anniversary Translation (MASSIVE CHANGES ON THE WAY)

From what Yoshi said in that talk show Ygg, it sounds like Arcanist will just use Carbuncle (2 diff kinds) for different roles, while SMN will channel the "essence" of the Primals - so it will in effect be very similar to FFXI. Yoshi wants to keep them special, which is why they're keeping the actual primals themselves to the free companies (I'm not a big fan of that either but this is a decent compromise I think) while we summon either lesser versions (avatars) or something else that contains their power.

The artwork pretty much shows the summoner calling what looks like Ifrit - and Ifrit is pretty damned badass in this game (Extreme fight). So I guess it does kinda make sense to restrict what we can do as players, because really it'd be a bit nuts to run around with an actual Primal all the time.

Re: 25th Anniversary Translation (MASSIVE CHANGES ON THE WAY)

I'm curious how you percieve it to be bastardized?

From my understanding of reading various interviews/translated forum posts/and general internet jargon, Archanist will get Carbuncle as well as a few other lower tier summons (Caitsith, probably a moogle if their smart, etc.) and that summon can be kept out indefinetly (as in no perp cost like in XI) and can serve as either a tank (for solo play) or more offensively based pet class (for group play).
Upon completeing steps to become Summoner (i.e. the job) you unlock the ability to summon the major summons, but they don't function like XI's system where you would have titan out for some extended period. They are spells/abilites that summon the "primal" (Ifrit, Garuda, Siren, Titan, etc. all the way to fucking bahamut potentially) for a moment so that they summon can unleash it's ability (I.e. like a spell that summons a creature that does something and then that creature returns to the *cough* Aether)
This instant summoning of the Primals is more along the lines of what summoners have always done in previous Final Fantasies, with the exception being XI, where you casted Garuda and let her melee constantly.
IMO, This is a much much better system than XI's and allows for a much more expanded/expandable roll for parties/solo play. Again balance will have to be struck correctly, and if you can only summon Ifrit every 2mins, then Carby's Auto Attack damage is gonna have to be pretty decent, to equate for these long re-casts on the big guy spells.
What don't you like about this new way of summoning?

Re: 25th Anniversary Translation (MASSIVE CHANGES ON THE WAY)

What I dont like is what they have talked about doing with the primals. I dont like the idea of hunting down a wandering primal, killing it and only gaining its power for aset amount of time and then having to do it all over again. I'm ok with being limited on how often we can use their abilities, that I'm fine with. I'm just not ok with them asking me to go hunt down "insert avatar name here" every 3 days just so that my job can serve it's base function. All of the previous games have allowed me to keep my avatar and use it any time I want from then on in. If FFVIII made me go back and fight Odin every few days if I wanted to keep using him, I would have never bothered... or simply never used him (thereby conserving his power so I woulnd't have to go hunt him again and could simply stare at his name in my spell list along-side the others and feel satisfied).

That's the mechanic I don't like. If they changed their mind on that, great! If they didn't, then my complaint stands. I like that I can has Carby and a few others all I want, but what good is a 1 use only avatar that I'll have to go hunt down again and kill if I ever want to use him again? It'll just be an endless cycle of "use-fight-obtain-use-fight-obtain".

Re: 25th Anniversary Translation (MASSIVE CHANGES ON THE WAY)

If you're a kid and you want to go have a waterballoon fight with your friends... would you rather have a limitless supply of waterballoons of which you can only throw 1 every 2 minutes, or would you rather have only 1 at a time and have to run back to your house 2 blocks away to refill it every time you used it?

I get what they're doing. They're trying to make us conserve our big Primals for when they will be of the most use. Will that happen? No... people will just hold onto them and never deem any circumstance as "worth blowing their primal load on". It's the same reason that you never see any SMN in FFXI using their Astral Flow. Sure it's powerful, but it's a 1 shot badda-boom that blows all your MP and you have to start from scratch. Same Idea... only in FFXIV it looks like it'll be worse.

I'll be happy to be proven wrong and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Archanist so that I can watch the job development and make a decision on whether I like it or not. In the meantime, I maintain cautious skepticism.

This is nothing like any of the other FF games. In the others, you could use the big spell and it would either burn a lot of MP, or you'd have a recast timer... or you'd expend enough points of which you only have so many/fight... or you'd just have to wait an abysmally long time to finish casting (looking at you Tactics).

In none of those situations was I required to go out and re-aquire the avatar.

Your legs are broken too. In fact. They're broken worse. You resemble Freeza during the final scenes when he was on and trying to blow up Namek. At least Mezlo has the balls to say whats on his mind. Grow a pair. When have I actually done any of the things I keep saying I'm going to do to Mezlo. Have I even made him get pants yet?
