If you're worried about stat inflation, then yeah, limiting the number of equipment slots that can have materia slots would be a good idea. I honestly don't know how bad the stat inflation will be in this game.

Well, they are planning a MAJOR buff to players.

Currently, the stats are something like 10:1 or something ridiculous like that (As in 10 STR = 1 attack) but Yoshida has said they want to bring it more in line with a 1:1 ratio, so that not only gear but your bonus stat allotment will matter a lot more.

This is going to be huge.

alternative solution to the gil transfer solution; mandatory trust funds.

instead of just leaving everyone hugely unequal, or leaving everyone completely equal, make everyone equal from the start of ARR, just let some people be more equal than others. Take player's existing gil, set it aside in a bank for some months, and then slowly dole it back out to them; possibly with tax or interest so that it's a more reasonable sum in the new economy (or in the case of interest, to reward players for their patience). Existing players get some of their effort back in time, but without having a huge pile of money to fuck up the new game with. Doling the money back out over time instead of in a huge lump keeps players from hoarding wealth, and will probably see more of that money spent immediately instead of kept away for large purchases. Also encourages people to keep playing (read: paying) to collect the money later on, over time.

System could be tweaked in plenty of ways; for example, whether it pays out a percentage of your total gil, or a fixed amount. A percentage would get you your money back faster, but a fixed amount for at least the first few months would keep the older players equal longer, and probably keep things fairer for new players as well. Interest could be used to increase a player's total amount of money they will eventually receive back, while keeping the actual payments equal for everyone-- effectively making the difference in how long they will be receiving the money.

That's actually a great idea Feba. Better than the one I proposed because some of the more ... wealthier ... players won't lose all of their "efforts".
